I'm re-releasing the generalized consensus series one blog at a time for easier ingestion. Today, it will be the first two parts: Defining the Problem and Setting the Requirements. Links in 🧵
It's been a privilege of mine to work with @ATechGirl for many years.
I chatted with @ATechGirl from @supabase on her 25 years of experience as a developer, her time as the project lead of Vitess, her work on Multigres, and databases at Supabase in general.
No paywall, give it a read.

This is a postgres compatible connection pooler where you're free to interleave connection state altering statements like create temp table, set variables, etc.
in the Postgres ecosystem there are a lot of tools that are "postgres compatible"
one of the design goals for Multigres is compatibility - allowing you to scale up without any trade-offs.
@multigres has now achieved 100% pass-rate on all major Postgres test suites:
Massive scaling improvement to Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY with multigres connection pooling magic.
Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY slows down as more clients listen, but Multigres keeps it fast no matter how many are subscribed.
Here's how we keep it fast: multigres.com/blog/listen-no…
To become warm and kind after reaching success is one thing. It's more rare to see someone be so from the beginning. This one is a profile interview of @kiwicopple, and worth a watch. youtu.be/bRL-Om8B_ck?si=zGBI…
Interested in learning about @multigres? Deepthi Sigireddi (@ATechGirl), our head of databases, is running a webinar during PostgresWorld tomorrow.

Only a handful of people understand generalized consensus. If you think you're one of them, you have a place in the Multigres team. Info in 🧵

If you thought last year was awesome, this one is going to be electric. Uncomfortably excited.

I made this brief trip to NYC for Dash by @datadoghq. @supabase draws such epic crowds, so amazing. And @junahmed27 pulled me out of my comfort zone during our fireside chat.

Exactly one year ago, I joined Supabase. The fun I've been having with Multigres is a given. But I want to highlight the level of integrity in the leadership team. And the people at Supabase have been a delight to work with. Feels like home.
This alpha release of Multigres has a message: We want to redefine how to run Postgres, solving previously unsolved problems. Our motto is: "Don't accept accepted problems".
Replying to @kiwicopple
As part of the round we're announcing @multigres v0.1 (alpha)
Multigres is like an "operating system" for Postgres, handling connection pooling, backups, and high availability. This is an open source release that you can self-host:

Connection Pooling that doesn't require session mode, yet works like you're directly connected to Postgres? @haritabh_gupta explains how we did it in @multigres multigres.com/blog/building-….

one of the most tedious parts of Postgres is connection management
if you use a connection pooler (almost always the case), you usually need to choose between Transaction Mode, Statement Mode, or Session Mode
with @multigres you don't need to choose. coming soon to supabase
