Dear @apple I’m an idiot but you are genius. Please in a simple form explain me how image captured with native iPhone camera, required, fucking 10sec, to just load for the edits?

BVH Encoding for Neural-Assisted Ray Tracing Daniel Meister, Takahiro Harada (AMD - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.) jcgt.org/published/0015/02/0… Abstract: We propose a novel input encoding method of 3D positions for neural networks used in ray tracing algorithms. Our encoding technique utilizes the bounding volume hierarchy (BVH), which serves both as an acceleration data structure for ray tracing and as a spatial data structure for indexing learnable latent feature vectors. Our method naturally adapts to scene geometry, supports general geometric primitives, and maintains a bounded memory footprint independent of scene complexity. We demonstrate an application of our technique in the context of neural radiance cache (NRC).

If you are developing an image viewer this year, I don't fucking care about your excuses, but it must load thumbnails asynchronously and in parallel!

"The swarm's random number generator used double arithmetic that overflowed past 53 bits, and with seed 9 it fell into a short cycle, so every child it bred was a repeat and the main thread spun forever while the eight workers sat idle. The eight-survivor run never got past its first generation." Claudeee... !!! What are you doing!!

Building an analytical denoiser in 2026 with the help of LLMs is such an interesting task! Over 30 years of experience in image processing gives me a clear idea of exactly what I want to achieve, which methods to explore, and which direction to take. But the process also reveals just how many decisions, trade-offs, and limitations are hidden under the hood of all the denoisers I've used before - things I'd never even thought about.

Bone conduction facilitates self-other voice discrimination Pavo Orepic, Oliver Alan Kannape, Nathan Faivre Olaf Blanke royalsocietypublishing.org/r… Abstract: One's own voice is one of the most important and most frequently heard voices. Although it is the sound we associate most with ourselves, it is perceived as strange when played back in a recording. One of the main reasons is the lack of bone conduction that is inevitably present when hearing one's own voice while speaking. The resulting discrepancy between experimental and natural self-voice stimuli has significantly impeded self-voice research, rendering it one of the least investigated aspects of self-consciousness. Accordingly, factors that contribute to self-voice perception remain largely unknown. In a series of three studies, we rectified this ecological discrepancy by augmenting experimental self-voice stimuli with bone-conducted vibrotactile stimulation that is present during natural self-voice perception. Combining voice morphing with psychophysics, we demonstrate that specifically self-other but not familiar-other voice discrimination improved for stimuli presented using bone as compared with air conduction. Furthermore, our data outline independent contributions of familiarity and acoustic processing to separating the own from another's voice: although vocal differences increased general voice discrimination, self-voices were more confused with familiar than unfamiliar voices, regardless of their acoustic similarity. Collectively, our findings show that concomitant vibrotactile stimulation improves auditory self-identification, thereby portraying self-voice as a fundamentally multi-modal construct.

Neural representations of own‑voice in the human auditory cortex Taishi Hosaka, Marino Kimura & YukoYotsumoto nature.com/articles/s41598-0… Abstract: We have a keen sensitivity when it comes to the perception of our own voices. We can detect not only the differences between ourselves and others, but also slight modifications of our own voices. Here, we examined the neural correlates underlying such sensitive perception of one’s own voice. In the experiments, we modified the subjects’ own voices by using five types of filters. The subjects rated the similarity of the presented voices to their own. We compared BOLD (Blood Oxygen Level Dependent) signals between the voices that subjects rated as least similar to their own voice and those they rated as most similar. The contrast revealed that the bilateral superior temporal gyrus exhibited greater activities while listening to the voice least similar to their own voice and lesser activation while listening to the voice most similar to their own. Our results suggest that the superior temporal gyrus is involved in neural sharpening for the own-voice. The lesser degree of activations observed by the voices that were similar to the own-voice indicates that these areas not only respond to the differences between self and others, but also respond to the finer details of own-voices.

Auditory traits of "own voice" Marino Kimura, Yuko Yotsumoto (Department of Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo, Japan) journals.plos.org/plosone/ar… Abstract: People perceive their recorded voice differently from their actively spoken voice. The uncanny valley theory proposes that as an object approaches humanlike characteristics, there is an increase in the sense of familiarity; however, eventually a point is reached where the object becomes strangely similar and makes us feel uneasy. The feeling of discomfort experienced when people hear their recorded voice may correspond to the floor of the proposed uncanny valley. To overcome the feeling of eeriness of own-voice recordings, previous studies have suggested equalization of the recorded voice with various types of filters, such as step, bandpass, and low-pass, yet the effectiveness of these filters has not been evaluated. To address this, the aim of experiment 1 was to identify what type of voice recording was the most representative of one’s own voice. The voice recordings were presented in five different conditions: unadjusted recorded voice, step filtered voice, bandpass filtered voice, low-pass filtered voice, and a voice for which the participants freely adjusted the parameters. We found large individual differences in the most representative own-voice filter. In order to consider roles of sense of agency, experiment 2 investigated if lip-synching would influence the rating of own voice. The result suggested lip-synching did not affect own voice ratings. In experiment 3, based on the assumption that the voices used in previous experiments corresponded to continuous representations of non-own voice to own voice, the existence of an uncanny valley was examined. Familiarity, eeriness, and the sense of own voice were rated. The result did not support the existence of an uncanny valley. Taken together, the experiments led us to the following conclusions: there is no general filter that can represent own voice for everyone, sense of agency has no effect on own voice rating, and the uncanny valley does not exist for own voice, specifically.

Update: The Chief Marketing Officer at Autodesk reached out. We have a meeting scheduled for Monday morning.
This is a wild approach, @autodesk. We’re a small business paying $380 per user, per month. We’ve been paying customers for over a decade, and we make a deliberate effort to honor the license agreements for every product we use. Your software already requires authentication and an assigned license. What, specifically, prompted this email? Earlier today, I had two conversations on two separate podcast episodes about your direction with Fusion and why cloud-based API access makes sense for agentic MEP workflows. I was making the case for Autodesk. I think the product direction is right based on recent posts from @andrew_anagnost. Our company has been deciding where to invest our development effort: integrate our custom cloud agent harness into Autodesk, build on an open-source platform, or adopt one of the emerging cloud alternatives. That decision will lock in years of internal development and software spending. This decision is also central to our plans to expand @PermitZIP nationwide. An email like this becomes part of that decision. So does the time we have to spend responding to it.For more than a decade, we’ve paid for anywhere from 5 to 30 licenses each year. Autodesk is our single largest SaaS expense. This is a heck of a way to make our next platform decision easier. Starting next week, we’ll begin transitioning away from Autodesk products. We have nothing to hide and will cooperate with the audit. We’ll also be directing our future spending toward companies that earn our confidence as partners. I hope your audit goes well.
