The way Atlanta Dream point guard Jordin Canada has elevated her play in the postseason is starting to look a lot like Chelsea Gray’s historic 2022 playoff run. Both point guards entered the postseason as their team’s fourth-leading scorer during the regular season before emerging as their leading scorer in the playoffs, shooting at an incredible rate and helping their teams get past Breanna Stewart-led opponents in the semifinals. Gray put together one of the greatest postseason performances in WNBA history in 2022, never shooting below 52% from the floor in a single game throughout Vegas’ 2022 championship run. In a first-round win over Phoenix, she recorded 27 points and eight assists on 81.8% shooting in just 24 minutes. She later became the first player in WNBA history to record back-to-back 20-point, 10-assist playoff games, including the league’s first 30-point, 10-assist postseason performance. That historic game came against Seattle in Game 4 of the semifinals, when Gray finished with 31 points and 10 assists on 59% shooting from the field and 50% from three to help Las Vegas secure a 97-92 victory and advance to the WNBA Finals. That series was much closer than the (3-1) result suggested. Two of Las Vegas’ victories came by just five points, while another required overtime. In that overtime victory, Gray finished with 29 points and 12 assists, helping the Aces take control of the series. Her phenomenal play continued in the Finals against Connecticut, where she scored at least 20 points in all three Las Vegas victories. In the championship-clinching Game 4, Gray recorded 20 points and six assists on 69.2% shooting as the Aces won their first championship in franchise history. She finished the postseason averaging (21.7) points and (7.0) assists, becoming the first player in WNBA history to average at least 20 points and seven assists during a championship-winning playoff run. ✨
