She was buried beneath concrete and steel, trapped in darkness with only one arm free. For 27 hours, she waited, prayed and cried for help. Then rescuers heard her voice. A hand reached through the rubble and found hers. Genelle was the last person pulled alive from the World Trade Center ruins. She survived, endured multiple surgeries and eventually learned to walk again. Her story deserves to be remembered. We do not glorify violence. We remember the lives behind history so we never forget the human cost.
