Recruited for technical depth. Evaluated on cost, growth, and trust. No wonder CISO tenure is the shortest in the C-suite.
His take: security isn't overhead anymore. McKinsey found it's now the #1 reason enterprise buyers switch vendors — ahead of price and features.
Yet most companies still bury security review at the end of the sales cycle. A speed bump, not a selling point.
The best CISOs flip this. Sales calls, not just audits. Same-day security reviews, not week-long ones. Numbers a CFO tracks — "deals unblocked," not "attacks blocked."
The right question isn't "did anything go wrong?"
It's "how is security helping us grow?"
