Here's a fun, dumb thing I made about #motherhood and being a millennial (and FTR, I have TWO bingos)
Worst episode of The Masked Singer ever.

“Individual freedom has been warped into the idea that we’re all on our own & if someone can’t afford chemo or rent, or a business gets hit by the worst health crisis in a century, it’s not our problem...unless they put up a website compelling enough to convince us otherwise.”
I got mad both at and on behalf of the Strand slate.com/culture/2020/10/st…
Surely we’ve jinxed it and he’ll be up at 2am, buuuut 🍹

I think I have a definitive answer to the dividing line between genX and millennials If you were born before MTV existed, you’re GenX; if you were born after, you’re a millennial.

I worry our public education system is being gutted.
I also worry that racial segregation in our schools is deepening.
To me, these “pods” risk increasing the racial and class separation already cemented by residential segregation and gentrification in US neighborhoods.
Wary to send their kids to school in the fall, some parents are coming up with alternatives—like joining other households to form their own little schools on.wsj.com/32NZUUf
Super interesting article about how we learn to read vs how it’s been taught (plus, interesting implications for remote learning!)
Replying to @ehaspel
First, a little background. U.S. students struggle BADLY w/reading, as @ehanford has exhaustively reported. One in three(!) 4th graders score below basic on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This has huge implications for overall academics.

Mr. Noodle has a good PR team!
The team behind #SesameStreet knows that parents don't get Mr. Noodle. But kids get a lot out of all the silliness. @Zulkey reports nym.ag/3jowoKC
I would. And I’d make sure we used a variety of letters and numbers of the day. And I’d balance classic bits with new ones. And no more “Plan to Play/Play the Plan” (if you know, you know)....

Yet another excellent analytic piece this morning on the economic impact of the child-care crisis. Can this sort of convergence finally lead to political action?

It’s not that it’s impossible to open schools full time with coronavirus safety measure in place. It’s that public schools haven’t been given the resources to do it: nytimes.com/2020/07/16/upsho…
There are many ways in which this program failed to replicate the actual media landscape, but unfortunately, it did replicate the power structures, access pipeline, and racial makeup of just about every pub I went on to work for.

"I'm praying to God," said Bianca Austin, Breonna Taylor's aunt. "We need real change in America. I've got to still raise a little black boy here in the world we live in. ... Nobody's safe. If this can happen to Breonna, it can happen to anybody."

When I was a teacher, our principal would end the daily announcements by playing “Lovely Day” over the loudspeaker. Even now, I can’t hear the song without also hearing her voice saying “John Bartram High School, you have a lovely day.” 🖤youtu.be/bEeaS6fuUoA
Aww. I was just wistfully thinking of Strega Nona’s magic pasta pot earlier today. RIP to an author who helped form some of my most visceral childhood reading memories. npr.org/2020/03/30/824244076…
Me: Incredulous that parents would take their toddlers to a roadside zoo manned by armed men.

Yes!! We were about two blowouts from running out this week and couldn’t find wipes anywhere! (Amazon shipment arrived just in time—phew!) I beg of you, adults, please don’t do this!
