Usually the new numbers thread doesn't get going until the start of July, but Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Marcos Senesi will wear 5
He also had it at Bournemouth after two seasons as 25 while he has a nationally-appropriate 2 for Argentina at the WC

I love the weirdness of nostalgic AI images:
- a football ground that's chosen to invest in a rusted metal sign, with a modern font and hyphen, specifically to sell FA cup tickets
- men staring at a meaningless door, ahead of the main turnstile door
- the boys walking into another barriered area with no queue
- everyone with hands in their pockets, the model still being cautious to show fingers
No £80 replica shirts. No phones filming every second. No marketing telling you how special it all was. Nobody flying in from Singapore after paying £700 for a ticket.
Just lads getting there hours early and queuing forever at the turnstiles. Cold hands, muddy terraces, and all that mattered was bagging your spot on the wall. Football when it was simple. 👏🏻👏🏻

England lineup v Netherlands OTD in 1993, the 2-0 loss in Rotterdam ending any realistic hopes of qualifying for the World Cup
Slightly odd numbering in that Paul Ince was Manchester United's no. 8 at the time, Paul Merson was Arsenal's no. 10 and Lee Sharpe had often worn 11

1 Urbig
2 Laimer
4 Tah
3 Kim
11 Brown
6 Kimmich
8 Bischof
7 Olise
10 Karl
5 Diaz
9 Kane
How are you approaching this Bayern #1to11ify?
One of Fifa's few good rules is that 1 has to be a goalkeeper and that applies here too so no giving Jonas Urbig 5 or 7

@squadnos Interesting numbering from the @Lionesses last night. Seems Sarina Wiegman decided to go ‘full Dutch’ with this lineup.

I definitely can remember in the 90s that 9 was ‘the’ number everyone wanted. In more recent times, even a lot of strikers would now see this move as an upgrade rather than downgrade (Zlatan at United, Mbappe at Madrid, Lukaku for Belgium etc.) At what point did that change? 🤔
Les Ferdinand Day - though 30 years ago he wished it wasn't

It was the first time that England had players' names on their shirts for a 'normal' game where 1-11 was used
