CERT provides a new angle on the difficult problem of identifying relevant performance issues in database systems!
How can we automatically and efficiently find performance issues in databases? We propose CERT, a novel black-box technique: arxiv.org/pdf/2306.00355.pdf. Our key idea is to test them through the lens of cardinality estimation - a more restrictive query should return fewer rows.

CnosDB becomes the first cloud-native time-series database that supports SQLancer.
By using SQLancer, CnosDB technical team finds and fixes logical errors in product queries, and helps upstream projects build more stable query engines.

We already integrated our Query Plan Guidance (QPG) approach into SQLancer (see github.com/sqlancer/sqlancer…). Feel free to give it a try! I also gave a talk on QPG at Tsinghua University, hosted by Yu Jiang, earlier today and received insightful questions and feedback!

Our paper "Testing Database Engines via Query Plan Guidance" was accepted at @ICSEconf (3x accepts!). The core idea is to steer automated testing towards unseen query plans for finding logic bugs. We found over 50 unique, previously unknown bugs. Stay tuned for the preprint!

Wow, great way to run database test! Although the tweet happened last year, still wanna say congrats to @RiggerManuel to create SQLancer.
Impressive tool to automatically test database in order to find logic bugs during implementation!

Thanks to @12bytez's contribution, @sqlancer_dbms can now also test @Yugabyte! Great to see that SQLancer already has been useful in locating and preventing bugs (see github.com/yugabyte/yugabyte…).

We now have a website (nus-test.github.io/), a logo (designed by @nolentina), a Twitter account (@test_nus), and a name (Trustworthy Engineering of Software Technologies (TEST) Lab)! Unclear what the logo represents? I'd suggest searching for SG's "Gardens by the Bay."

We are excited that @shanluchicago from @UChicagoCS will present a keynote on “Tackling performance and correctness problems in database-backed web applications”, in which she will present their work on understanding and tackling database related problems in web applications.

ALT Modern web applications rely on underlying database engines to manage the increasing amount of user data. Unfortunately, the semantic gap between the application layer and the database layer easily leads to performance and correctness problems that severely affect the experience of web users. In this talk, I will discuss our work in understanding and tackling database related problems in modern web applications. Guided by our empirical study of this type of problems in open-source world, we developed checkers that found thousands of database-related problems in popular web applications, and IDE tools that help design database-friendly web pages.
