Launching a digital platform is not the same as simplifying trade.
The real test:
• Fewer repeated documents
• Clearer requirements
• Transparent fees
• Better tracking
• More predictable processing
Measure what traders experience.

That "cheap gin" that makes you blind for 3 days?
It's tree bark soaked in industrial ethanol.
NAFDAC just found one factory worth N500M. Imagine how many they haven't found.
NAFDAC Uncovers Suspected Counterfeit Alcoholic Drinks Factory in Aba
NAFDAC has uncovered a suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks production facility at No. 25 Omenazu Street, Aba, Abia State.
Acting on credible intelligence, officials discovered the facility operating in unhygienic conditions. The suspected operator reportedly fled upon the team’s arrival, abandoning a vehicle in which counterfeit packaging materials bearing the names of Sir Edwards Scotch Whisky and Scottish Hills Whisky, empty bottles and a drum containing approximately 200 litres of liquid were found.
Inside the facility, officials found counterfeit packaging materials, bottle caps, sealing machines, empty bottles, cartons, tanks containing various liquid concoctions and dirty sieves reportedly used in the production process. Plastic buckets and 200-litre drums containing ethanol and tree bark immersed in ethanol were also discovered, raising serious concerns about the safety and quality of the products being produced.
The estimated value of the equipment, materials and facility components is over ₦500 million. The Agency urges members of the public to provide credible information on suspected illegal manufacturing activities to the NAFDAC Call Centre on 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or email [email protected].
The cheapest supplier is not always the cheapest option.
Freight, insurance, storage, delivery delays and quality issues can change the final cost.
Compare total landed cost. Then assess reliability.
A low quotation is a starting point, not a complete decision.

Higher freight costs can affect more than the logistics budget.
They can influence supplier selection, inventory levels, working capital and delivery commitments.
Businesses should assess shipping risk before it becomes an operational crisis.

Growing a commodity is one challenge. Exporting it competitively is another.
Storage, processing, grading, packaging, certification and logistics all influence whether Nigerian products can meet buyer requirements at a competitive cost.
Export strategy must address the whole value chain—not just production.

1975: Nigeria lent money to IMF and World Bank.
2026: IMF and World Bank lend money to Nigeria.
Dangote's math is not nostalgia. It's an indictment.
N30B = $47B in 1975. Today N30B = $18M.
That's not devaluation. That's 50 years of decisions.
Dangote: Nigeria has given IMF money before, we have also given money to the World Bank, we have also written off £211 million debt to the UK. We can be there. Our national budget in 1975 was N30 billion. Do you know how much that was? It was 30 billion pounds, so it means that our budget at that time was $47 billion. Can you imagine if we kept up that growth?
The hidden cost of importing
A supplier offers the lowest price. Good deal?
Not necessarily.
Add freight, insurance, customs charges, storage, inland delivery and the cost of delays. The cheapest quotation may not produce the cheapest delivered product.
Compare total landed cost before committing.

This is why "lower crude price" headlines are misleading.
Israel on high alert = higher risk premium for Hormuz shipping + insurance. That cost is passed to end users.
Hope for de-escalation - high tension is expensive for everyone, especially import-dependent economies.
Oil prices can fall while shipping costs stay high.
Why? Crude prices are only one part of the delivered cost. Freight, insurance, vessel availability and maritime risks matter too.
Businesses should track the full landed cost not assume one market decline solves everything.

Nigeria wants cargo clearance down to one day.
But a digital platform alone cannot fix overlapping procedures, slow approvals or poorly coordinated inspections.
The real test: faster releases, lower avoidable costs and predictable delivery.
Reform must show up in traders’ experience.
System is real Epirus Leonidas HPM, designed for swarm drone kill with one pulse, low cost per shot vs interceptors. US has been testing/deploying in CENTCOM. "Hundreds immediately" is not confirmed scale up is planned but no DoD announcement of 100s in last 24h. It's short-range complement, not replacement for Air Defense / MANPADS.
The tweet conflates two different chokepoints. Strait of Hormuz is up north (Iran/Oman). This incident is in Gulf of Aden / Arabian Sea near Yemen/Somalia different risk.
Pattern here is classic Somali piracy resurgence, not Houthi attack. Houthi attacks are usually missiles/drones further west in Red Sea/Bab el-Mandeb. Small skiff + 7 people + small arms = piracy profile, which has increased since late 2023.
Vessel is safe per UKMTO, no boarding.
BREAKING: 🇾🇪 Tankers are now being attacked in the vicinity of Yemen as well
Those that manage to slip through the Strait of Hormuz are now being stopped off the coast of Yemen.
UKMTO reports that an LNG tanker came under fire approximately 140 nautical miles southeast of Al Mukalla, Yemen.
A small skiff carrying seven people approached the tanker and fired two shots. The vessel’s armed security team responded with two warning shots, forcing the skiff to change course.

Growing more food is important.
But what happens after harvest?
Without effective storage, transport, processing and reliable energy, getting food from farms to consumers remains a major business challenge.
Agriculture is not just about production. It’s also about logistics.
Where should Nigeria invest more: farms or food infrastructure?

Nigeria’s headline inflation eased to 14.63% in September.
But monthly energy inflation rose to 5.38%.
Both figures matter—and they measure different things.
Lower headline inflation doesn’t automatically mean every business is experiencing lower costs.
Are businesses looking beyond the headline number?

Marine-fuel disruption can change shipping decisions, and those changes may affect freight costs and delivery schedules.
Yet some businesses only think about logistics after the supplier has been paid.
That isn’t cost control. It’s hoping nothing goes wrong.
Agree or disagree: logistics deserves a seat at the table BEFORE procurement approves an order.

You can control your selling price.
You can negotiate with suppliers.
You can manage inventory.
But can you control global shipping disruption and marine-fuel volatility?
If your profit disappears whenever freight costs change, is the business model strong—or just lucky?
Unpopular opinion: too many businesses calculate profit without properly pricing risk.
