Tesla FSD preventing a potentially nasty accident. Famous Dutch Youtuber @Enzoknol was testing out FSD when a car drove straight through the red light. You can see by their reaction how impressed they are by the software. The public perception of FSD is really good in the Netherlands. Most people seem to like it and I see a lot of Dutch spoken clips on social media of instances where FSD is performing super well.

Anduril is building America's largest shipyard since WWII. This space needs bold investment and decisive action. In the 1790s, Baltimoore clippers were the fastest and most advanced sailing ships of their time. King George III didn't stand a chance. Time to run the same play.
Anduril is investing $3.7B into Arsenal-2. The next great American Shipyard.

Do you remember around 20 years ago when there were 20 different cell phones to choose from and almost everyone you knew had a different phone? Fast forward 20 years and almost everybody you know has an iPhone.. Same thing will happen to cars. 20 years from now, everyone around you will be driving a @tesla. It’s already happening. Start paying attention around you when you drive. I just sat at a red light, and out of the 6 cars that were around me, 4 were teslas. On the other side? 3 out of 5 were teslas. Everyone today that’s telling you they’d never buy a Tesla are the same people who wouldn’t give up their blackberry.

On Britain's Got Talent, an illusionist sat on stage while a sheet was pulled over a chair, making him instantly disappear and reappear in a different spot.  When asked how he did it, he offered to make an exception and explain.  He put on a reflective white jumpsuit and turned on UV lights to show the audience the secret escape route on the back of the chair.  Then came the real twist.  Even with the white suit glowing, the lights fully up, and everyone watching every move, he stepped back into the chair, dropped the sheet, and vanished into thin air again in a split second!

Hockey ice is white because it's painted. Rinks freeze a thin base layer, spray it with white paint, then seal the paint under more ice. The league has done this since the 1940s so fans could follow a black puck. Then someone pointed a projector at it. It turns out hockey had accidentally built the best movie screen in sports. Matte white paint under a sheet of clear ice diffuses light almost perfectly, and the whole surface is dead flat. It's also enormous. An NHL rink is 200 feet by 85, about 17,000 square feet. A standard IMAX screen is around 4,000. A show like this takes roughly a dozen 20,000-lumen projectors hung in the rafters, aimed nearly straight down so the beams don't glare off the ice or bleed into the seats. Software warps and blends all of them into one picture that fits the rink's rounded corners pixel for pixel. The Devils put about $1 million into their rig a decade ago, and arenas across the league copied it. San Jose was always going to push this furthest. The Sharks have run the most famous entrance in hockey since the 90s, a 17-foot shark head lowered from the rafters with fog pouring out of its mouth and eyes glowing red. For thirty years the players skated out of the tank. Now the whole rink is the tank, and the sharks circling under their skates are just light bouncing off paint that was only ever there to make a puck visible.
The Sharks swimming in the water is a magnificent detail. I can’t look away. #SJSharks

We need a culture in the USA where our big manufacturing facilities are viewed by ordinary people as incredibly impressive places where awesome things take place. They are objectively incredible spaces, and most people are totally blind to it and have no idea. If people knew what happens to get a tube of toothpaste or any other simple product they use daily onto the shelf, I think it'd make our country so much better. Seriously. I'm lucky enough to enter many of these spaces, and they're all filled with truly incredible humans doing incredible things, and nobody knows about any of it. We go grab our shit from the store and we don't think twice about it, but what happens upstream of us grabbing it off the shelf really is so incredible. I think most people would agree if they knew. I just want more people to see it and respect it. I think it's so important. I keep brainstorming ideas for how I can help make more people understand how many amazing things happen in the random buildings they pass and never even think twice about.

The statue of Prometheus is finally finished. It was cast in Paris, crossed the Atlantic, and was assembled at Starbase. It took us 100 days to go from nothing to this. People of the West, we have lived through an era devoid of dreams, devoid of destiny. But the time has come to reclaim our dream of antiquity. In a few months, we will start building a new city. It will be the most magnificent city in all of history. After all, the great dream of the West has always been to rebuild Rome. Come walk beside us in this endeavor. The world is waiting.

A nearly impossible chain of events over millions of years lead to the gathering of a few thousand humans capable of designing and launching skyscrapers into orbit. And we happened to be born into the cosmic millionth of a second where we get to witness it. And that is why I can’t watch a Starship launch without feeling the feels.

New York bought a tunnel boring machine for roughly $8 million, used it once, and entombed it in concrete under Park Avenue. Digging it out would have cost $9 million. So they held a small ceremony, sealed the chamber, and walked away. That's the industry norm. When the Channel Tunnel was finished, machines on the British side were steered off the main line and buried under the seabed. One that made it out was auctioned on eBay for £39,999 and cut up for scrap. Boring machines get treated as single-use because retrieval requires a massive reception pit and cranes, which usually costs more than the machine itself. Which is why the quietly radical word in this update is "re-launch." Prufrock arrives on a truck, tilts down, and digs itself into the ground within 24 hours. No launch shaft. When the tunnel is done, it angles upward, breaks the surface, and mines its way onto a trailer that drives it to the next job. The Boring Company calls the maneuver porpoising. Prufrock-1 has already dug six tunnels this way. It's the SpaceX booster playbook underground. The biggest hidden cost in tunneling was throwing the machine away, so they built one that comes back. There's a second change buried in the design. Conventional soft-soil machines advance about 5 feet, stop, erect a concrete ring, then start again, so they spend roughly half their life not digging. Prufrock installs the liner while it mines. The company keeps a pet snail named Gary, because a garden snail tunnels 14 times faster than a conventional boring machine. Elon's stated definition of victory is beating the snail. Even at Prufrock's target of a mile per week, Gary still wins.
Prufrock-5 finishing a test-tunnel in Bastrop, Texas. The ~900,000 lb boring machine will re-launch in November.
