Here's how it works:
➡️ A shopper checks out once, with goods from multiple sellers
➡️ Each seller gets an order of their own, with its own number

Running a multi-vendor marketplace? The sales commission rules engine in Spree Commerce open-source lets you charge every seller the right fee, including tax on it. Dashboard video in this post.

Spree Commerce lets you configure it all in the admin dashboard:
➡️ Set commission rates by seller, category, product or sale value
➡️ Charge a percentage, or a flat fee per currency
➡️ Rates apply in list order: the first match wins
➡️ Charge tax on the commission itself, rate by rate

Selling to businesses? "Catalogs" in Spree Commerce let you set which products each business customer can buy and what they pay. It's just one of many open-source B2B features.
1️⃣ One catalog is one agreement. Assign one customer to it, or many.
2️⃣ Divisions inherit their parent company's catalog. No extra setup.
3️⃣ The catalog decides which products that customer can buy.
4️⃣ And what they pay: per product, one percentage, or a price per quantity.

Spree Commerce 5.6 lets you gate prices and checkout behind a login, hiding them from guests until they request an account: spreecommerce.org/announcing…
Included in this release is a Next.js storefront with a wholesale portal running alongside the retail shopping experience. It's just one of many uses cases of price & checkout gating.
👉 Same storefront.
👉 One backend.
🖐 Multiple customer segments with their own pricing.
Here is the part that matters if you have built this before: the gating is enforced in the API, not in the storefront code.
Prices stay hidden whether the request comes from the Next.js storefront, a mobile app, or a custom frontend.
A new frontend cannot leak a price you meant to keep private.
Also included in this release:
↗️ Gated sales channels - require login, hide prices, or disable guest checkout, enforced at the API layer
↗️ Wholesale portal - a Next.js storefront app with customer pricing and quick ordering
↗️ Localized admin - admin panel in 50-plus languages, per team member, with right-to-left layouts
↗️ Pre-orders - sell before stock arrives, set per variant with an expected ship date
↗️ Simpler deployment - one Docker image, no required Redis, 40% smaller than 5.5
↗️ Redesigned emails - localized, mobile-friendly transactional emails

Stock Reservations and Order Routing in open-source Spree Commerce stop you from selling the last unit twice and ship every order from the right warehouse: spreecommerce.org/stock-rese…
Two quiet problems drain a growing store.
The last unit sells to two people in the same minute. One gets it. The other gets a refund and does not come back.
And orders that should ship in one box arrive in three, from warehouses on the wrong side of the country.
Both come down to one question: where is the truth about your stock?
Stock Reservations put a short hold on items the moment a shopper reaches checkout. The first person in holds the last unit. The second sees it is gone before they commit. No double sale, no apology email. It is on by default.
Order Routing decides which warehouse fills each order. Rules you control rank your locations, keep an order in one box when they can, and send it from the right place. You reorder the rules from settings, not code.
They work together and stay out of each other's way. One protects the count. The other picks the location.
Both are in the free open source core.
Sell what you have. Ship it from the right place.

Sales Channels in open-source Spree Commerce let you sell online, in your stores, and mobile app from one backend, so customers get the same prices, stock, and checkout everywhere they shop: spreecommerce.org/ecommerce-…
Most retailers run each of those on its own system. Catalogs drift, prices fall out of sync, and no one report shows what each surface actually earns.
Not to mention bad customer experience - no click & collect or cross-channel returns & refunds.
Sales Channels put every surface inside one store.
Every order is tagged with the channel it came from. So you see what your wholesale line earns next to your website, side by side, with no exporting and stitching.
Each channel keeps its own catalog and schedule. A product can go live at the register today and online next month, set once.
Buy online, pick up in store, return at the counter. It works, because underneath it is one system.
One backend. Every surface. One clear view of the business.
Free and open source.

With Spree Commerce, marketing, customer care or operations people can now ask their AI agent in plain language for anything from a one-off setup fix to a scheduled job or a simple integration.
No need to ask developers or pay in an app store when the admin panel falls short.
Here's what can be done easily: spreecommerce.org/ecommerce-…
👉 The marketer pulls an audience the admin filters cannot describe.
👉 Support people identify and email a group of customers caught in a shipping delay.
👉 A merchandiser runs a flash-sale price change in seconds, not an afternoon.
The bottleneck was never the work.
It was who was allowed and enabled to do it.
That changes when an AI agent can actually run your store. It knows the platform, and it acts within permissions you control.
On Spree Commerce, the AI tooling is the big productivity unlock for non-tech staff:
1️⃣ Agent skills teach AI how the store works.
2️⃣ A docs server lets the agent look anything up as it goes.
3️⃣ The Admin API and CLI let it read and change real data.
4️⃣ Scoped keys mean it touches only what you allow.
All of it in the free and open source core.
No app store. No waiting in the dev queue.
A workplace culture expert, Jessica Kriegel, told Axios why that matters.
"Agents are reducing what I'd call the psychological cost of action."
They "make unfamiliar work feel more approachable, which means I start sooner, experiment more, and spend less energy worrying about what I don't know."
When the cost of trying drops, teams stop rationing ideas.
They just try.
#ecommerce #opensource #AIagents #headless #retail #claude #cli #codex #cursor
The Spree Commerce CLI helps your whole team get more done on your online store, with less repetitive, error-prone busywork.
More results, fewer mistakes, and a business that moves faster.
Here is what that looks like, for example:
👉 An ops manager corrects hundreds of mispriced products in seconds.
👉 A marketer exports last month's orders with one saved command.
👉 Overnight, an AI agent marks every sold-out item out of stock.
No afternoon lost to clicking around the admin.
The same tool covers the everyday work:
1️⃣ Read and report: pull any list or export.
2️⃣ Update in bulk: change products, prices, or stock in one pass.
3️⃣ Run routine jobs on a schedule.
4️⃣ Hand the repetitive parts to an agent, within limits you set.
All of this may be done by people or automated and scheduled for their agents.
People and agents touch only what you allow.
It is all part of the free and open source Spree Commerce core.
Check it out: spreecommerce.org/spree-comm…
Put the CLI in your team's hands. Automate it with agents.
#ecommerce #opensource #AI #headless #CLI
Your Spree Commerce backend is fully programmable. No need for an admin panel. Truly API-first.
With an Admin API and a fully-typed TypeScript SDK, your code can read and write:
👠 products,
🛒 orders,
👱 customers,
🛍️ promotions,
so the same things you manage in the admin.
Connect any system and automate any workflow:
👉 Feed your catalog from a PIM or ERP.
👉 Sync orders into a warehouse system the moment they're placed.
👉 Build a custom admin inside your own SaaS instead of a second login.
What makes it safe and fast at scale:
1️⃣ Scoped keys: each integration touches only the data you allow.
2️⃣ Bulk operations: changes run as single queries, so large catalogs don't grind.
3️⃣ Draft Orders: compose a complete order from an external system.
4️⃣ A fully-typed SDK: autocomplete for every endpoint.
And because Spree Commerce is open source, both the storefront and backend APIs are in the free core, on infrastructure you own.
Your systems. Your data. Your infrastructure.

With a token cost reduction of up to 90%.
Get the 25 installable skills that teach your coding agent how to master eCommerce customization, security, performance and upgrades, among others.
👉 Extend the platform safely: where your customization belongs, new models and API endpoints, overriding core behavior the right way.
👉 Build the commerce logic: catalog, cart and checkout, payments and refunds, promotions, pricing and multi-currency, shipping and fulfillment.
👉 Connect to anything: the REST API, the TypeScript SDK, the Admin API from your terminal, webhooks, and integrations like Stripe and Adyen.
👉 Shape the storefront and admin: the Next.js storefront, a customized admin, translations.
👉 Go live and stay live: testing, security, performance, deployment, and version upgrades that don't break your customizations.
The agent follows these conventions instead of guessing.
That means code that's right the first time, about 90% fewer tokens, and zero setup for everyone on the project.
They work with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, and 60+ other agent tools.

Up to 25% young medical pros are resupplying through group B2B buying.
They don't even bother doing it themselves. No sales reps. Just a reorder form.
They want a website: log in, see their price, reorder, done.
No follow-up calls. No "just checking in" emails.
A wholesale store has to handle two things here.
1️⃣ Show each buyer its own contract price.
2️⃣ Gate regulated items so only verified, licensed accounts can buy them.
Prescription dental devices, for example, sell only to licensed practitioners under FDA rules.
The public should never see an add-to-cart button on those.
Spree Commerce is an open-source eCommerce platform built for B2B selling like this.
Its free Community Edition covers both:
1️⃣ Price Lists: per-account negotiated prices and volume tiers.
2️⃣ Member-only storefronts: regulated items shown only to approved accounts.
3️⃣ Customer Groups: the right catalog and pricing per buyer.
4️⃣ Account order history: the recurring reorder in three clicks.
When a group brings its org chart, roles, and sign-off chains, the Enterprise Edition B2B module models that hierarchy on the same platform.
Build a wholesale portal faster, for less with Spree Commerce open source and all the tools for agentic development included.

Announcing Spree Commerce 5.5: faster AI delivery, better code quality, cheaper agentic development and automated daily commerce operations.
The timing is no accident. The Stack Overflow 2025 Developer Survey found that 66% of developers say their biggest frustration are “AI solutions that are almost right, but not quite.”
That frustration is exactly what this Spree Commerce open source release fixes: spreecommerce.org/announcing…
Here is what you get:
1️⃣ Your AI agent becomes an eCommerce expert. 25 installable skills teach it how Spree Commerce works before it writes code. Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex and others.
2️⃣ Token cost drops about 90%. Your agent stops burning tokens guessing at best practices and long-term solutions.
3️⃣ Automate your store back office. A new Admin API and TypeScript SDK sync orders, products, and customers with your ERP, warehouse, or custom dashboard.
4️⃣ Let your AI agent run the store for you with Admin API and CLI. Let it do all the daily chores like restock items, fulfill orders, and launch promotions.
5️⃣ And for complex catalogs: Sales Channels, Stock Reservations, and rules-based Order Routing. Built in, not plugins.
