A 37-year-old Yemeni refugee is on trial in Germany accused of nearly beheading his 29-year-old wife after she planned to expose a scheme in which he passed off two unrelated children as his own to obtain German welfare payments. After Danon Mohammed Saeed G. arrived in Germany in 2022, he applied for benefits for the family and received around €3,700 for the two unrelated children. Prosecutors revealed that his brother had previously used a similar scheme after arriving in Germany in 2019. The indictment also describes repeated domestic violence. He beat Shahirah, his wife, with a wooden stick, locked her in a bathroom for hours, confiscated her passport, locked the home to prevent her from escaping, and threatened to kill her and members of her family in Yemen. Police imposed restrictions and a no-contact order after she reported him, but prosecutors say he repeatedly returned and continued threatening her. Shahirah wanted a divorce, maintained her criminal complaints and planned to tell German authorities about the suspected welfare fraud. Prosecutors reveal that on June 14, 2025, her husband bought a kitchen knife with a 15-centimeter blade at a Munich supermarket and went to the family's home in Krailling, near Munich. When Shahirah fled into the bathroom and locked the door, he kicked it in, stabbed her repeatedly and, while she was still conscious, almost completely severed her head from her body. Their four-year-old daughter was inside the apartment during the killing. He subsequently called police himself, and all six children, including his four own children, aged four to ten, were taken into state care.
