Revised recs: Mast0don experience depends heavily on app & server you use. Big ones overwhelmed, pick a smaller one. I don't rec original mastodon app, try Metatext or Toot! (New fav!) Masto Pros/cons are same: linked but distributed servers, diff admins.

12 years ago, Twitter’s office used a Mac Mini to tunnel into the servers. One day, an IT guy found it in the closet. “Anyone know who owns this?” “Unplug it. Someone will show up.” Everyone lost access to servers. Huge crisis. It became known as the “Load Bearing Mac Mini.”

Mastodon experience depends heavily on app & server you use. Mastodon.social is overwhelmed, pick a smaller one. and tootle app isn't great migrating from Twitter, "tooot" is more standardized. Masto pros an cons are same: linked but distributed servers, diff admins. 1/2

Also, I feel like people have forgotten when they first joined Twitter and they didn't know or follow anyone. No, it's not the same as Twitter, but also, you're starting back at level 1 with followings. that's not Mastodon's fault. that's nobody's fault. it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️2/2
