This is my personal opinion: Why do @EPSRC think it's ok to send grant proposal reviews back overnight to Saturday? Several hundred hours of work compressed into a proposal and anonymously commented on and sent back by a UK agency on a UK weekend is a depressing find on Saturday.
It is not good enough to say that email should not be checked – there are lots of reasons to check email out of hours. Not least that academics are expected to keep an eye on wellbeing issues, and be ready to reply to student queries due to already unrealistic expectations.
But on top of that, many academics suffer from anxiety, perfectionism, over work and stress. Our top funding agency should not be a part of the culture that feeds into all this. Please stop sending out of hours emails, and especially at the weekend. #EPSRC #longhoursculture
