You were Education Secretary from 2010 to 2014. The Jay Report later found around 1,400 children exploited in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Operation Stovewood was still convicting men in 2026 for offences from those years. Rochdale cases from the early 2000s were still reaching court last year. That is not a closed chapter.
You have said yourself that in 2011 officials wanted the Department for Education to help stop The Times publishing Rotherham details, and that you sided with publication because “it was absolutely vital that the truth be told.” Letting a guest on your own podcast wave the same scandal away as historic, then clipping and promoting that exchange, is the opposite of that position.
Maggie Oliver, who resigned from Greater Manchester Police over Rochdale, has spent this year saying the abuse and the systemic failures are not historic. The statutory inquiry chaired by Baroness Longfield has only just started. Earlier recommendations remain unimplemented. Ethnicity data is still missing for most suspects.
If the truth was vital enough to publish in 2011, why was it not vital enough to challenge in 2026?
In some towns 1 in 7 Pakistani men were involved in these rape gangs.

Rory Stewart is what happens when a superiority complex gets a Rhodes scholarship, a podcast and mistakes itself for empathy.There’s something wonderfully pompous about deciding, from the safety of your philosophical mezzanine, which abused children are sufficiently important to interrupt your grand theory of Britain.
It’s not wisdom, Rory. It’s just posh detachment with a thesaurus.
He still doesn’t understand what the story is about. Aside from the scale, the nature of the crime and racial component in the selection of victims, it was a crime made possible by the complicity of the state at all levels: social services, police and politicians like him who are still obfuscating to this day in order to protect a multicultural worldview they foisted on the population.
Firstly, it is still happening, so it is now.
Secondly, the attacks are racially motivated. What would Rory say if the perps were white and they specifically targeted Pakistani Muslim girls?
Thirdly, there is no equivalent systematic racial abuse being perpetrated by other groups in this way.
Fourthly, the whole community knew what was going on and condoned or hid it.
Fithly, the illegal immigrants entering our country come from cultures where they think this is acceptable.
This shows how out of touch @RoryStewartUK is.
