Starmer speech: I’m not sure comparing the Greens and Zack Polanski to Reform and Nigel Farage is quite the winning pitch to progressive voters he thinks it is.

This is really quite shocking from Shami Chakrabarti. "This foolish motion" is what the vast majority of Palestinians believe. Perhaps she could explain to them how it is that she - miraculously - came to understand their own lived experience better than they do. If you want to debate tactics and strategy, fine. But that's not what she's doing. Coming from a member of a party that has materially assisted the wholesale slaughter of small children for the last 3 years it is frankly obscene.
Shami Chakrabarti condemns the Green Party’s Zionism is racism motion on #PoliticsLive “It’s not even fair to student unions to call this student union politics”. She describes the motion as “wrong and highly inflammatory”

Openly gloating at a secret wrecking campaign to put this website out of business, orchestrated in secret between party officials and media outlets. And the wild part is, theres no need to brag and show off. They’ve won, they got what they wanted. But they can’t help themselves.

The point being made here is that Morgan McSweeney’s secret wrecking operation in 2018-19 - the one that he and his buddies have since spoken about at some length - included a concerted effort to destroy that publication and put it out of business. He’s gloating, here.

*Actual gangsters* think twice about doing drivebys on each others’ relatives.
A stark demonstration for everyone here: this could be your partner, your kids, your relatives. If it becomes convenient to make someone the main character, then these people will go at it full force regardless.

This is murder. This is a murder that was partaken in by the entire political establishment and the NHS. It is a murder of a person for no other reason than simply because she was trans. Nobody will go to jail. Nobody will suffer any consequences. But they all murdered Joelle.

What is this thing right wingers do now where they just compare two completely unrelated numbers
🚨🚨EXCLUSIVE: The cost of Personal Independence Payments for mental health conditions now exceeds entire funding given to police forces in some parts of the country for 1st time. Sun analysis found cost in Durham was £195m, more than the £189m given to "underfunded" local cops.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

Sounds strikingly to me like young people are going to be made to work for free stacking shelves for Sainsburys, subsidised with meagre benefits, which are withdrawn entirely if they don't. Can't imagine how grim it must be to be young and know that your future is in the hands of arch-Blairite Alan Milburn.
Exclusive: Britain is facing an “economic catastrophe and moral failure” because a generation of young people is being written off to a life on benefits, the prime minister has said. Andy Burnham writes for The Times that the time has come for Britain to “invest in the success of our young people” rather than “pay for failure through the benefits system”. Setting out his vision for the fundamental reform of welfare, he said the present scheme provided “an assessment, a payment and, after that, a goodbye”, with no support, skills or help getting a job. In future, Burnham promised, the government would offer a “clear guarantee” of support, starting in schools, to address the almost one million 16 to 24-year-olds not in education, employment or training, known as Neets. Every young person would be guaranteed a technical pathway, work placements, apprenticeships and the skills they needed to find a job, Burnham said. However, he cautioned that this would be matched by an expectation that young people would take up the opportunities available to them. He added that under the new system, benefits would become a “backstop” rather than the “starting point” for young people. His comments come a week after the launch of The Times Welfare Inquiry, a six-month investigation into how the welfare state is working and failing.

No state has a right to exist! That’s not ‘nonsense’ or ‘strange’. It’s true! Did Czechoslovakia have a right to exist? If so, how did we end up with Slovakia and the Czech Republic? Does the UK have a right to exist? If so, how come Scots were allowed to vote to break it up?
Jo Coburn: "He also said no state has a right to exist" Dale Vince: "That was a strange thing" Coburn: "Well its nonsense" Do Jo & Dale think Rhodesia had a right to exist? Apartheid South Africa had a right to exist? The UK has a right to exist?

One of the worst examples of pretending not to understand. I remember the first time I heard the expression, “does is real have the right to exist”. I was probably early twenties, and the awkwardness of the phrase, that it’s never used in any context, made it obvious bullshit.
Please, @DaleVince, watch this and educate yourself. It’s embarrassing.

Did Czechoslovakia have the right to exist? Did the 1993 Velvet Divorce creating what are now Czechia and Slovakia violate that right? Is Scotland banned from voting for independence because of the UK's "right to exist"? This isn't a difficult concept to grasp!
"Do you think Israel has a right to exist?" @ZackPolanski is spot on. No state has a right to exist. Did Rhodesia? Does the UK? And this was🎯"The status quo right now is a one state apartheid state where Palestinians do not have the same freedom as Israelis, & that's racist"

This is why Farage is allowed to present programmes on GB News. Because if they banned it the other parties wouldn't be able to get their mouthpieces presenting news media either.
🟣 Former special political adviser @ayeshahazarika will present this week's Sunday Morning programme. The agenda includes the latest from Ukraine and domestically, a return to parliament. ⏰ Sunday from 08:30 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

you first! 50% salary reduction for MPs, cap expenses at bare minimum levels, scrap food & booze subsidies in the HoC and abolish the second home allowance, you can get trains to work and pay for them yourselves, like the rest of the public. we’re all in this together, aren’t we?
We are going to have to make sacrifices to defend our country. We are going to have to get welfare spending under control👇

Jez: (Lifts book off shelf, reads out a sentence at random) And that’s good, is it
As is clear in Conversations with Friends, writers are increasingly adept at capturing the way in which we all communicate.’ All of us? Really? Her protagonists tend to be incredibly well-educated, left-wing and introspective. Nothing wrong with that – some of my best friends are educated. But they can be pretty tedious company. One character spends an entire passage looking at her own face, telling the reader: ‘I took a handful of my hair and looked at the ends, which were dry’. Is that a fascinating moment of self-exploration or just someone remembering they need a haircut? All her plots are pretty much the same, combining one clever but self-effacing woman, another more charismatic, beautiful and sexually adventurous one, and a variety of interesting romantic arrangements. Essentially she takes archetypes and tries to extrapolate bigger themes. ✍️ Alys Denby Article | spectator.com/article/good-r…

Yes, this is how we wound up with Mandelson’s Labour winning power on a platform of pure bullshit and drivel, with secretly agreed plans to scythe benefits and crack down on everyone the Sun hates, which swiftly disgusted and repelled the public.

When the right - particularly the crackpot racist right - talk about freedom and free speech, they are talking specifically about *their personal, unlimited freedom*. Their freedom permits, and often actively requires, policemen thrashing you in the head with batons.
