"I'll wait and see if it takes off."
That sentence is why most creators are always late. By the time a platform has obviously taken off, the cheap reach is gone and you're competing with everyone.

THANK YOU FOR ASKING THIS QUESTION!
No, not every web3 game needs a token.
In an ideal world, most games would have no tokens at all. Most web3 games only need a token because they have no other way to derive profit from their game nobody plays than the exuberance of a market.
Some games do need tokens because they are central to the economy there (a good example is @staratlas), but for most it isn't needed.
If web3 game developers treated blockchain as a part of the tech stack designed to give users more freedom and control and didn't make it about money from day zero, the whole space would be much better off.
What if a Web3 game announced:
No token. Ever.
Would you be more interested or less interested?
The moment a token gets announced, the conversation usually shifts from:
Is the game fun?
To
When TGE?
How much can I earn?
Can trading, crafting and player-driven markets be enough to create a sustainable economy?
Or does every Web3 game need a token?

Everything's dumping, and sentiment is in the gutter. But VCs don't shut up shop in these conditions, so what are they looking at?
