ALT Bucky picks up the photograph with his right hand. He doesn’t want the glass to break. They both look happy. Carefree. His arm is slung over her shoulder. Natasha’s in a bikini and Steve is shirtless. Their hair is damp and they’re both squished together so tight their temples are touching. Steve’s holding a beer in one hand and Bucky wondered if he was just drinking it to fit in with whoever else they were with. He swipes his thumb over Steve’s face and a thick layer of dust comes off with it. “She reminded me a lot of you.” Steve chimes in. “Except she was funnier. Prettier too.” He grins and there’s a weight behind it. “I believe it.” Bucky sets it back down. “Did you and her ever—“ He trails off and regrets the words as soon as they come out his mouth. “Once. She found out I was a virgin and reckoned she’d fix that just in case I never got the chance.” He has that heavy grin over his face again.
