The most important benefit of the internet is that it gives everyone the chance to be heard. The downside is that we hear every idiot with a 2-digit IQ. Now AI has come with all the tricks and everyone with a 2-digit IQ thinks they are either an artist or a genius. What progress!

This is the plan. AI for corporations. The good stuff. Corporate control of IP. Corporate control of marketing. Corporate control of distribution. Good luck getting a place at that table. They'll lift up rare random examples of homebrew/indie as marketing for themselves and the technology. All those "Hollywood is cooked" "I one-shotted Fast and Furious" "Made this $200,000 commercial for $50" accounts bleating about democratization? Sorry guys, you're just beta testers. "Hollywood" is going to gatekeepmax your faces off.
Remember last year when Disney threatened legal action against Character AI, who complied with demands, then just last month Disney hired their CEO and a bunch of engineers. And are now paying $20 million for Character AI assets.

Exactly this. So far, the biggest benefit AI has provided has been to scammers and con artists. I guess what they call AGI must stand for “All Grifters Included.”
i find the AI discourse around a (as-yet-hypothetical) cure for cancer a little repulsive. the combination of these people transparently being more interested in deepfakes of women; and the predatory, intrinsically emotionally manipulative quality of promising a cure is loathsome

“Ooh boy, AI is great!” “Look, we’re Miyazaki cartoons!” “Now we’re ALL artists!” “Oh shit the gate just closed!” “They’re monitoring everything we say!” “Fuck, there’s police drones everywhere!” “The AI just locked my money because I said Free Palestine!”

Reading the quotes, the half, AI-doomers, express concern and issue warnings. The other half, AI-proponents and AGI worshippers, dismiss it as nonsense. I don’t know what will happen, but we, the ordinary people, will get caught in the middle and screwed, that’s for sure.
My current view: - AI companies could develop broadly superhuman AI any year now (~10-15% by EO2027, ~50% by EO2030). - If they don't slow down, AI takeover is ~67%. - Conditional on AI takeover, human extinction is ~40%. Many non-extinction worlds still have lots of deaths.

This is nothing more than a crappy ad for a terrible, dystopian, and, to be honest, disgusting product; that’s all it is, nothing more. No matter how much you polish a piece of shit, it’s still a piece of shit.
Meta just blew this commercial out of the water. As everyone else stares at a screen, not truly living in the moment, you'll be able to watch without worrying if you caught it on tape, fully enriched in the experience. 10/10

The world Gossip Goblin built from grotesque & banal AI-imagery has been turned into a movie. It’s marketed as “an experience you’ve never seen before,” but it’s a pure amalgamation of everything we’ve seen before. “Gods don’t give gifts”, apparently AI gives chance to grifters.
Watch the new trailer for Gossip Goblin's #GodsDontGiveGifts, coming to theaters this December.

Ahaha, that was a bit harsh, but it's pretty accurate I suppose.
My wife: can we fuck Alvin: I built a dildo attached to a robot and automated the thrust movements at a speed and rotation based on your body temperature and moisture level, with an additional function that can deliver pregnancy-inducing sperm based on an AI analysis of my cu-

In case you had any doubts, the "question" of AI consciousness is not a matter of scientific or philosophical debate. It's part of the AI industry's marketing strategy.
Note well, apparently Anthropic tried very hard to get the Vatican to alter the text of "Magnifica Humanitas" just prior to its release so that it would not deny AI personhood.

The end game for commercial genAI music is to create an infinite stream of personalized music. People who use Suno only listen to their own creations, and stop engaging with music off-platform. Total alienation from shared culture.

I also asked something similar when discussing with an AI-bro. All GenAI tech was developed by exploiting human work; if this tech is as “almighty” as it’s marketed, it should also develop a fair mechanism or calculation model to compensate for the resources used in its creation.
When will AI be powerful enough to calculate royalties for all the people whose work it stole?

The models for "open source" AI options are still made by corporations. Stable Diffusion was made by Stability AI for example and Stability AI is a billion dollar corporation. They do profit from commercial use of their models. Open source doesn't mean "no corporation involved".

The foundation of "Punk" is DIY. Do it yourself. You don't have to be good. You can be terrible. Just do it. Yourself. Punk is anti-corporation. Paying OpenAI to generate output for you is as far from DIY that it's possible to get. Paying Suno. Paying Higgsfield. Giving them your money and they give you some media back. Newsflash - those are corporations.

Just another “frat boy” type of AI-bro who’s trying hard to monetize AI tech for his own gain. Until a few years ago AI tech wasn’t even public, and these people were either promoting crypto or selling shady marketing plans to businesses, now they’ve all become AI mouthpieces.
I am not joking when I say this. Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over. AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago. Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

This is a very important point (see the first post in the thread). This dismissive, condescending mindset is something shared by many tech figures who hold key positions in the tech industry. And that’s the reason for the shitty situation we’re in.
Replying to @motorhueso
Please also note the offensively patronizing tone in the text of the postcard: "You wouldn't understand it so here's a picture of a cute cat." AI bros hate you. They think you are stupid and inferior. They don't even hide it.

This is a slide from a talk I gave a few days ago. On the left you see both sides of a postcard that a friend brought back from her visit to the OpenAI offices. On the right you see a tweet from Palantir. In both cases, we find the same phrase: 1/5

OpenAI and Anthropic’s models are so magical and mystical and dangerous, they can do anything! They may even destroy the world! The only thing they can’t do, funny enough, is generate positive cash flow. And that’s where the US Taxpayer comes in!

Behind the viral Coxon story is a tightly financially entangled regulatory capture cartel. The story is almost too clean to beelieved. Almost everyone involved in the past couple of weeks leading up to the viral Coxon story are paid for by investors in Anthropic. Good Ventures and Open Philanthropy/Coefficient Giving is owned by Dustin Moskowitz, who led Anthropic's Series A. Survival and Flourishing Fund funded others who pumped up the hysteria in parallel. Survival and Flourishing Fund are run by Jaan Tallinn -- an investor in Anthropic. Then you have amplifiers of Coxon, who are at Anthropic itself. All of these individuals serve to benefit financially from the doomer hysteria and the regulatory capture that could result in its wake. Coxon himself is a nepo baby -- he doesn't need the money. He just harvested the virtue signal. Hence the smug smile while talking to interviewers about humanity's impending extermination. Nepos gonna nepo.
