Jadarian Price never started a single game in college while at Notre Dame. Never had more than 15 touches in one. He got drafted in the first round by the Seahwks, and the reason he was even available to draft is a choice almost nobody makes anymore: he chose to stay a backup. The setup first. Price signed with Notre Dame, then tore his Achilles as a true freshman in 2022, the injury that ends most running backs before they start. He recovered, and came back to a depth chart with Jeremiyah Love in front of him, a back so good he went third overall this year. So Price had two paths. Behind an elite starter, he could transfer to a program that would hand him the job and 250 carries, put up huge counting stats, and chase the spotlight. In 2026 that isn't the risky move. It's the default. The transfer portal exists precisely so talented backups don't have to wait. He stayed. Three years at Notre Dame, backing up Love, taking the smaller share. 1,692 yards and 21 touchdowns across three seasons, on limited touches, because he was never the feature. NFL teams asked him about it directly. Every one of them wanted to know why he didn't leave for easier volume. Here's the answer, and here's the lesson. Price bet that being efficient in a great situation was worth more than being a workhorse in a lesser one. And the NFL agreed with him emphatically. Scouts didn't care that he had only 113 carries his final season. They cared that the carries were elite. He ran a 4.49 forty at 203 pounds. He averaged 37.5 yards per kick return in 2025 and took three of 22 career returns to the house. The tape was cleaner precisely because there was less of it, and none of it was padding. That's the counterintuitive part. Volume can actually hurt you. A back with 300 carries has 300 chances to put bad reps on film. Price had a small sample of nearly perfect ones, and in a scouting process built on projecting upside, a clean small sample beat a noisy large one. He looked like unused potential instead of a known quantity, and unused potential is what first-round picks are made of. The deeper lesson is about the trade everyone gets wrong. The transfer-portal logic says maximize your opportunities, get the ball, rack up the numbers, be the guy. Price made the opposite bet: protect the quality of your work even if it means less of it, and stay in the room where the standard is highest even if it costs you the spotlight. He'd rather be the second-best back on a team full of first-rounders than the best back somewhere nobody was watching. Being the featured star in a weaker situation is the loud choice. Being the efficient piece in an elite one is the quiet choice. The loud choice looks better on the stat sheet every single Saturday. The quiet choice looked better exactly once, on the night it mattered, when his name got called in the first round and the transfers who chased carries watched from home. Now Mike Macdonald is on Hard Knocks saying "dang, number 8 is fast," and Price is stepping into the job Kenneth Walker left behind. He waited three years for a starting job in college and never got one. He'll get his first real one in the NFL. The kid who refused to pad his stats is about to find out what he can do when they finally hand him the ball. Sometimes the smartest career move is to stay in the harder room and take the smaller role. The numbers will look worse. The people who actually decide your future will notice anyway.
Former Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price got a segment on Hard Knocks tonight. The first-round pick is *really* impressing his new coaches and teammates in Seattle. "Dang, No. 8 is fast." — Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald (via @new_era72)

He went to Cal Berkeley He works for NASA He is a college professor He is an active contributor in his communities And this is in addition to being a multi-time All Star, Finals MVP and NBA Champion He IS the smartest person in the room.
People in the NBA believe Jaylen Brown has a "disease" where he thinks he’s the smartest person in the room, per @colincowherd “I had two NBA sources … two people in the league, one an executive, one a scout, say that Jaylen Brown has — it’s a disease. He suddenly thinks he’s the smartest guy in every room he’s in ... You make a lot of money, suddenly you’re absolutely sure, you don’t wanna listen to your bosses, you don’t wanna listen to consultants, you don’t wanna listen to teammates.” (Via @volumebball, h/t @TheNBABase)

Romelu Lukaku: "I was 6 years old, and I came home for lunch after school. Mom had the usual on the menu: bread and milk. But that day, I came home, and Mom started mixing the bottle of milk with something else. "She served me lunch with a smile as if everything was fine. But I understood what she was doing. She was mixing milk with water. We didn't have enough money to make the bottle last the whole week. We weren't just poor; we were broke. "My parents, in the midst of misery, bet on me. They made huge efforts to take me to training. That's why I played that first World Cup match with a lot of anger, for many reasons: for the rats running through our apartment, because I couldn't watch the Champions League, we didn't have a TV. I'd go to school, and all the kids would talk about the final. I had no idea what had happened. Everyone was talking about Zidane's volley. I pretended to know what they were talking about, for the classmates' parents who looked down on me because of my characteristics and condition." "One day I asked my father at what age it would be ideal to debut in football, and to give me any age (I found this out years later), he said 16. I didn't stop until l achieved it. At that time, I was a substitute for Anderlecht, about to turn 16. l approached the coach and asked him to bet on me. I promised him a certain number of goals, and if I didn't achieve them, he could bench me again. Indeed, at 16, I forced my debut. Not only did I score the promised goals, but I also became the top scorer in the national championship. I scored 76 goals in 34 matches; I did them all with my dad's boots. From then on, I decided to be the best player in Belgium's history. Not good. Not excellent. The best."
