Congratulations to Prof. Somdeep Chatterjee of the Economics Group at IIM Calcutta on the acceptance of his paper, Centralized Governance, Household Preferences and Publicly Provided Education: Evidence from Vietnam, for publication in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization (JEBO), an ABDC A* ranked journal.
The paper is co-authored with Prof. David Fielding of the University of Manchester and Dr. Manhar Manchanda of the University of Göttingen, who is also a PhD alumnus of IIM Calcutta and completed his doctoral research under Prof. Chatterjee’s supervision.

We recently got a 3rd round R&R , with R2 being stubborn, R1 already accepted after round 1. R2’s report is 86% AI (pangram) and of the 14% human content, large parts of it are quotes from our manuscript!! Not sure what to do, seems like the prompt was “give a revise decision” !!
Brilliant take by on the role of authors in the age of AI and using AI. You surely needed a researcher on econ history and institutions to bring these salient points out, so no wonder @anirban1976 was the one to do it. Loved it!

The workshop will include special lectures by former Dy Governor of the RBI, Prof Viral Acharya, currently at NYU Stern and the Principal Investigator (PI) of the widely used India Human Development Survey (IHDS), Prof Sonalde Desai of NCAER, who is also a Professor Emerita at University of Maryland-College Park. The Centre for Development & Economic Policy (CDEP) Annual Symposium 2026 was held on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2026 at IIM Calcutta, comprising of presentations from speakers around the world who shared their research on the economics of development, sustainability and the environment across various sessions.
The CDEP Annual Symposium Lecture was delivered by Prof. Sandip Sukhtankar, University of Virginia, who highlighted the importance of evidence-based policy-making in the age of artificial intelligence, and the challenges along the way.
A special session for doctoral scholars also included four presentations from young researchers. The Symposium fostered meaningful engagement across stakeholders in academia, with a focus on sustainability. It was attended by scholars from University of Oslo, Michigan State University, Plaksha University, University of Missouri, Shiv Nadar University, Ashoka University, Indian School of Business, ISI Calcutta, IGIDR, ADRI etc.
We begin Day 2 of the workshop with #AshmitaGupta of @ADRIPatna presenting her work on caste identity and teaching environments and how they interact with learning.
