As the EAC moves towards COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, Partner States have validated a common regional position calling for climate finance that is more predictable, accessible and grant-based.
The position calls for:
🔹 Developed countries to meet their climate finance commitments
🔹 Tripling adaptation finance by 2035
🔹 Greater direct access to climate finance
🔹 More support for adaptation and loss and damage
🔹 Climate finance that does not deepen the debt burden of vulnerable countries
The position was validated alongside the EAC Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan 2026–2036 during a regional meeting in Machakos, Kenya, which concluded on 3 October 2026, with support from the Government of Germany through GIZ.
