In an interview with CGTN, the unhinged and mercurial Getachew Redda resorts to his stock in trade: dwell on utter falsehoods to accomplish the specific task to which he is assigned at a given point in time.
His political allegiance has shifted from one extreme to the other in the past three years; (He is even on record for saying that when he is tipsy, he is in favor of Tigray's independence).
The link below enumerates some of the outlandish and disparaging labels he used to describe the Potemkin Party, and especially its leader; to whom he is aligned to now.
As it is, his current diatribe against Eritrea falls in the same mold; the cheap mutterings of a notorious hireling!
xitter.cf/hawelti/status/2070543âŚ
The Potemkin Party is apparently seething under extreme desperation. It must indeed be at its lowest point; at the end of its tether so to speak!
How else can one explain the monotonous, 35-minute long diatribe of lies and hollow allegations against Eritrea peddled by mercurial Getachew Reda (nominally, Adivsor to the Prime Minister) that was broadcast yesterday by the Ethiopian Broadcast Corporation (EBC) and other domestic media outlets.
If the unhinged Getachew Reda is taken as a credible political analyst and a reference point, then the numerous insolent and outrageous remarks that he had made on various Tigrayan TV outlets, as well as his X Account, about the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during the war in the Tigray Region must be accorded due credibility too.
Indeed, some of his grotesquely disparaging statements on Abiy Ahmed and the Ethiopian army include:
- "Abiy Ahmed is a political pigmy. Had Ethiopia been a normal country, he would have long been confined to a mental institution or spiritual cites of healing for the deranged";
- "Abiy Ahmed is delusional enough to believe and openly brag that his mother had told him, when he was seven years old, that she saw him, in her dream, being crowned as a King";
-" Abiy Ahmed is the epitome and example of little men who come to power by some accident of history and who subsequently create huge catastrophes";
-"Abiy Ahmed cannot lead a nation without reverting to endless deceptions";
- "He (Abiy Ahmed) has literally no education...but you cannot ask him how he claims that he has a PhD as he does not give you time for reasonable discourse";
- "Abiy Ahmed is the textbook example of national treason. As such, he has no moral high ground to speak about sovereignty";
- "Abiy Ahmed is a toxic weed that has grown in this nation";
- " (General) Birhanu Jula and others are not leading a capable army. They have lost the little military knowledge they had and are sheepishly taking orders from this mad leader. This anti-people army, which is blindly implementing Abiy Ahmed's war agenda, is entailing massive deaths among the civilian population and the youth"...etc...
The rudderless Getachew Reda is indeed prone to making whimsical and contradictory statements on almost any issue depending on his unstable moods and ever-shifting political affiliations. Recently, as he struck an opportunistic alliance with the Federal Government and its PM on whom he was heaping endless insults, he has began to shamelessly disavow the political beliefs he had held for decades.
In a recent interview, he quipped (referring to his old comrades): "There are many people who maintain that Tigray should be an independent nation. I also mull about that concept whenever I am tipsy!"
His close associates confide that Getachew is tipsy or drunk from the late afternoon to the wee morning hours almost on a daily basis... This has in fact earned him the moniker :"Vodakchew".
On a more sober note, how can one give serious weight to the excesses and irresponsible utterances of this political vagabond.
In the event, there is no point in responding to all the vitriol that he has floated against Eritrea in his interview yesterday.
We will thus focus on one fallacy: his preposterous assertion that "Eritrea was created, by conspiratorial forces, as an independent State in order to weaken and destroy Ethiopia".
This spurious and revisionist claim is, of course, utterly false and deliberately peddled to rationalize and advance the Potemkin Party's wicked domestic agenda of agitation and mobilization for war.
History otherwise attests to these indelible facts:
1. Eritrea was denied its inalienable right of decolonization in the late 1940s and "federated" with Ethiopia only because the US and other powers gave precedence to their perceived geopolitical interests.
2. The international community kept mum, again for similar political calculus, when the Ethiopian government unilaterally abrogated the "Federal Act" and annexed Eritrea in November 1962.
3. The Eritrean people and nation had to shoulder the heavy burden of national liberation for thirty long years and pay huge and unparalleled sacrifices. Throughout this period, virtually the whole world showed unconscionable apathy by failing to recognize and extend moral and material support to Eritrea's legitimate war of national liberation. In the meantime, Ethiopia which was ruled by the Emperor and the military junta that toppled him continued to receive massive military, economic and political support from diverse countries - the US, USSR, European Countries, Israel, several Arab and Asian countries, Cuba etc..
4. The same pattern continued at various critical junctures in Eritrea's post independence period. The failure to take meaningful action against the Ethiopian regime when it reneged on its treaty obligations - essentially worked out under the facilitation of the the US, the EU, the UN and the OAU - and rejected the EEBC Arbitral Award to occupy sovereign Eritrean territories for almost two decades is a glaring illustration of the tendency of major powers, and the international community at large, to sacrifice legality and justice on the altar of narrow interests.
5. In all these decades, including in these critical times when the current regime is stoking the flames of war through its reckless agenda of "sovereign access to the sea", the "intensive care" accorded to Ethiopia has not diminished in any way. The IMF's 3 billion financial bailout that is underway; the EU's massive assistance, including recent budgetary assistance; individual bilateral support to Ethiopia from European, Asian, Middle Eastern countries...etc. corroborate this fact.
6. Indeed, by some accounts, Ethiopia has been the beneficiary of an aggregate 114 billion US dollars in the past three decades from multilateral and bilateral assistance. This pattern of huge and burgeoning assistance does not reek of, and cannot be misconstrued, by any stretch of imagination, as "some entrenched conspiracy to weaken and destroy Ethiopia".
In brief, and as noted earlier, Getachew Reda's "analysis" can hardly be taken seriously on any subject. For the Potemkin Party to stoop too low to use his deranged analysis for "popular mobilization" only accentuates its utter desperation.

Remarkable interview by Ambassador Girmay Haile on Africa Talks! đŞđˇ The key message is clear: Eritreaâs sovereignty is not negotiable. Ethiopiaâs desire for sea access does not give it the right to claim Assab. Peaceful trade and cooperation are the only way forward, not threats or territorial demands.

The UAE must be held accountable for its role in the growing instability across the Horn of Africa. Reports of alleged coordination between the UAE, Ethiopian authorities, and the RSF in Sudan raise serious concerns that demand urgent international scrutiny.
If these allegations are substantiated, such cooperation risks escalating the conflict in Sudan, threatening regional stability, and exposing millions of civilians to further suffering. Any support that enables armed groups or facilitates military aggression must be condemned.
The Horn of Africa must not become a playground for foreign powers pursuing geopolitical interests at the expense of African lives. Ethiopia must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbours, including Eritrea and Sudan. No country has the right to pursue strategic ambitions through threats, proxy conflicts, or military intervention.
The international community must investigate these allegations impartially and hold all responsible actors accountable. African lives are not bargaining chips, and regional sovereignty is not negotiable.
đ UAE: Stop fueling conflict.
đ Ethiopia: Respect your neighbours' sovereignty.
The Horn of Africa deserves peace, not proxy wars.

Meles Zenawi on Assab: A 15-Minute Response Worth Listening To
Here is a 15-minute response by Meles Zenawi when he was asked about seizing #Assab by force. Translating verbatim his detailed answer on #Ethiopiaâs access to the sea would be time consuming, but one thing is clear: Meles was a far more sophisticated, capable and conniving leader than the political pygmy Abiy Ahmed Ali. The comparison is not even close.
Here are some of the key points Meles raised in this clip.
But first, let us address Abiyâs accusation that his predecessor, Meles Zenawi, left absolutely no documents explaining how #Eritrea gained independence and how #Ethiopia supposedly lost its âportsâ.
In reality, Meles gave this issue considerable thought. He engaged international maritime lawyers and experts to explore the legal avenues through which Ethiopia could secure access to the sea. He also invited #Ethiopian and international legal experts to examine whether there were any weaknesses in the treaties Emperor Menelik II signed with #Italy at the beginning of the twentieth century. Extensive research was conducted, drawing on both Ethiopian and international expertise.
By contrast, according to Abiy, he appears to have confined himself to putting his fantasies on paper in his book Medemer. I have yet to encounter a single person who has actually read it.
Meles Zenawiâs key points on Assab
1. Seizing Assab by force would make Ethiopia an international pariah.
If Ethiopia were to invade Eritrea and occupy #Assab, the international community would treat Ethiopia as a pariah state. Under those circumstances, Ethiopia would not be able to use the port effectively.
2. Ethiopiaâs international reputation.
Accourding to Melles, Ethiopia has established a reputation as a country that respects international law, unlike some other countries in the region. We must protect that reputation rather than jeopardise it through reckless actions such us occupying Assab.
3. Controlling Assab would not guarantee regional peace or stability.
Ethiopia could not guarantee peace and stability in the region or the Red Sea. Whatever economic or strategic gains Ethiopia might obtain from owning the port would be negated by the instability and war that such an action could trigger.
4. The loose-loose strategic reason for not using Assab at the time.
Melles decided not to use Assab because doing so would benefit the Eritrean government more than Ethiopia. Instead, we would wait and allow time to work in our favour, ensuring that Eritrea continued to suffer from the loss of revenue associated with the port. [The audience applauded at this point]
5. International treaties must be respected by successive governments.
Melles said, the treaties Emperor Menelik II signed in 1900, 1902 and 1908 must be respected by every subsequent #Ethiopian government. Likewise, treaties signed by our government must be respected by our successors. That is how international law works.
Ethiopia was also a founding signatory of the #African Unionâs founding charter and is committed to its principles.
Meles specifically referred to the 1908 treaty, which stipulated that the boundary between Eritrea and Ethiopia ran parallel to the coast, 60 kilometres inland. If the wording of that treaty could provide a legal basis for Ethiopia to claim Assab, then the matter could be tested in a court of law.
Within this international legal framework, we will do everything possible to protect Ethiopiaâs national interests. We have already engaged international legal experts to examine the issue. We have also invited Ethiopian legal experts and other professionals to contribute. Academics at Addis Ababa University have produced research papers and submitted their findings. Anyone else willing to contribute to this work would be welcome.
Ultimately, however, the deciding factor must be the law. The law provides a forum in which Ethiopia can present its case and either win or lose on its merits. We cannot rewrite international law to suit our own outlook or beliefs.
6. The question about the Eritrean #Afars wanting to be Ethiopians?
Another question concerns the claim that the people living around Assab want to be Ethiopians. Meles said he had no way of knowing what those people would choose: to be Eritrean, Ethiopian, both, or something else. He had seen no evidence to support the claim.
However, during the 1952 referendum in Eritrea, the Afar people did not demonstrate any departure from the wider Eritrean population in their desire for independence from Ethiopia. The 1993 referendum likewise produced the same overall outcome.
Following that referendum, Eritrea became a sovereign state. Ethiopia therefore had no right to interfere in Eritreaâs internal political affairs.

NEW YORK â Ethiopiaâs Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, told the UN Security Council that certain parties involved in Sudanâs civil war had committed serious violations of Ethiopiaâs territorial integrity and national security.
He also announced that Ethiopia would present evidence of Sudanese weapons allegedly smuggled into its territory while pursuing diplomatic efforts to address these violations.
The irony is simply staggering.
When Ethiopia hosts training camps for Sudanese militias, allows its territory to serve as a transit route for tons of weapons, and permits its airbases near Assosa and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions to be used as launching grounds for deadly drone strikes deep inside Sudan, does Ambassador Tesfaye seriously believe that Sudanâs territorial integrity and national security are somehow immune to such actions?
Apparently, when Ethiopia raises concerns about its own sovereignty, it expects the world to listen. But when Sudanâs sovereignty and security are at stake, the same standards seem to disappear.
What a joke. You cannot demand respect for your own territorial integrity while disregarding that of your neighbour. Sovereignty cannot be a principle you invoke selectively, depending on whose interests are at stake.

I guess âaggressionâ has a different meaning in the Potemkin Partyâs dictionary! The contradiction and hypocrisy of the regime in Addis Ababa are clearly on display in its daily statements.đ
