First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

Everyone wants to break stories but no one wants to do the actual work to report the right information. Akiiki didn't declare himself king, as the head of the ruling clan the Babiito, he takes over administration of the kingdom till the rightful heir is crowned.🤦🏾♀️

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announces plans to rename the Nashville International Airport in honor of Dolly Parton.
The proposal will be discussed at the Metro Nashville Airport Authority’s meeting on September 17.

The crazy thing about this out pouring of love for Dolly Parton is today's billionaires could give 10 times what Dolly gave without even feeling it and they just choose not to, every single day.

The world’s oldest reigning monarch (King Harald V of Norway) and the world’s youngest reigning monarch (King Rukidi IV of Tooro in Uganda) dying on the same day is bizarre and incredibly sad… most heartfelt condolences to both. My god what an absolutely rotten week

Stop saying Dolly Parton was a national treasure! There are kids here in Hull in Yorkshire who can read because of her.
She was a global treasure.

I have struggled to find words for the death of my King, His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. P
I have seen him grow all his life. I watched him learn to play football and basketball, ride bikes, go to school, leave for university, graduate, and, year after year, grow into his Crown. I watched the boy become a man, and the man become a remarkable King.
We were supposed to be planning his wedding, not his funeral.
Perhaps that is what makes this so difficult to accept. None of us believed the King would die. Even His Majesty believed he was coming home. On the day he passed, we had expected him to be discharged. Only a week earlier, he was still speaking with doctors about new treatment options and participating in the daily family prayer hour. He was happy that Arsenal had started the season with a stronger squad. He was looking forward to this year’s Empaango.
He was still making plans. Still hopeful. Still living.
Oyo loved Tooro deeply. He loved Uganda. He loved his family, and he had a special closeness with our children. But above everything else, he loved God.
He was truly a servant King: humble, gentle, and remarkably close to ordinary people. No one was too small to matter to him. He knew the names of his farm workers and bodyguards, and remembered people he met along the way. The Crown never made him distant from people; it made him feel more responsible for them.
Today, our hearts are especially with the Queen Mother Akiiki. She raised a young boy carrying an extraordinary burden into a gentleman and a great King. What she gave Tooro, through him, can never truly be repaid.
His loss is immeasurable. For our family, the pain is almost impossible to describe. For Tooro, an era has ended far too soon.
But Oyo’s legacy will not die.
It will live in his young son. It will live in the people he served, in the causes he championed, in the Kingdom he loved, and in the contribution he made to Uganda. And above all, it lives with God, the King of Kings whom he loved and served.
I will remember many things about His Majesty. But I will also remember Amooti Oyo: my cousin, my friend, the boy I watched grow up, the Arsenal fan, the father, the son, the brother, and the gentleman behind the Crown.
We were not ready to say goodbye.
Rest in eternal peace, Your Majesty.
The King is dead. The Crown mourns, but the Crown stands.
Long live the King.

After dark, Dr @kizzabesigye1 was moved from Luzira Prison to JCRC hospital today.
He is still very weak. He struggles to walk, speak, write or even hold anything steadily.
I am asking for one thing - let me bring him home to Geneva for proper medical care, surrounded by his family.
He has been arrested more than 50 times. He has faced case after case. He has never run away from justice.
Why drag a sick man from place to place? Why deny him the care of his family? Why force a trial on a man too ill to defend himself?
He needs care, not cruelty.
This is not justice. It is persecution.

The King. Of Hearts.
Our hearts feel shattered 💔
As a millennial, quite a significant number of homes, Batooro and non Batooro, had his portraits and calenders with his photos were best sellers.
It helped that he carried himself with such grace and intelligence.
One of my favourite discoveries in life was learning that the Tooro pet names had origins in the kinship with the Luo.
We mourn with you, fellow kin. May you find hope and strength through this difficult time.

abwoli: l deceived thee.
acali: I resembled thee.
adyeri: truly?
akali: in Acooli kaal is the «royal court»; lo-kaal, the members of the royal clan.
akiki: kikiki? adv. densely.
alali: I dispersed thee.
amoti: I greet thee.

Okaali Atuulize!
Rest easy His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
You led a Kingdom through its toughest crises, at a young age, with grace, charm and determination.
Your friendship, inspite of your royalty, was something I could always count on.

The oldest monarch
And the youngest both gone.

One of those deaths of people you’ve never met but devastate you and shake you to the core. From when we learnt a 3 year old would be the next king after his father’s death, I always thought, “what a handsome baby!”. He grew into an even more handsome young man. His mother, stood so strong and fought so many battles and now that she would have started to reap the fruits, relaxed when the king is old enough to carry the kingdom’s responsibilities, he’s gone. What a cruel life. And the people wreaking havoc and causing so much suffering in the world will never die! It will be those humble, young people, probably bettering the lives of those around them💔 💔 anyway, my condolences to Best Kemigisa and Ruth Komuntale, the people of Tooro and Ugandans at large. May King Oyo’s soul rest in eternal peace🙏🙏
