The meeting is convened under India's BRICS Chairship, with the theme: "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability." Addressing the high-level gathering, Minister Gedion underscored the urgent need for coordinated multilateral efforts to build a global order that equitably serves all nations. He underscored, the current global crisis unless resolved urgently will lead to adverse economic and financial consequences and social instability that can not be contained within national borders. State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, today signed a Host Country Agreement with Ambassador Solomon Rutega, Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Hadera emphasized the importance of transforming Africa’s coffee sector through stronger political commitment and cooperation. He noted that Ethiopia’s Coffee Sector Transformation Strategy aims to position the country among the world’s leading coffee exporters by empowering smallholder farmers, enhancing quality and productivity, promoting sustainability, and scaling up value addition across the coffee value chain. The State Minister also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting continental coffee initiatives and highlighted the African Union’s recognition of coffee as a strategic commodity under Agenda 2063. On his part, Ambassador Solomon Rutega expressed his appreciation for the signing of the agreement, noting that it is an honor for IACO to come back to Ethiopia, the origin of coffee.
