You have stalkers from relationships you walked away from YEARS ago. You have old friends stalking you from grade school. Your boundaries have to be stronger than your empathy, if not, you will keep trying to understand people who keep hurting you.
You will give second chances that become tenth chances.
You will let people take you for granted just because you can see their pain.
But understanding someone’s wounds doesn’t mean you have to stay where you’re being wounded.
Empathy without boundaries becomes self-abandonment.
You can hold compassion for someone and still walk away.
You can see their struggle and still protect your peace.
Your understanding of their pain doesn’t require you to absorb it.
So strengthen your boundaries.
Not because you don’t care because you care about yourself too.
Empathy is beautiful.
But it’s not a reason to let someone hurt you repeatedly.
You can love from a distance.
And sometimes, that’s the most loving thing you can do for both of you.
