I have had enough of this. When you do show up, you spend your time arguing over things that aren’t going anywhere, holding votes designed to make headlines, and trying to get your name in the paper. You were elected to do a job. When are you going to do it? This country is facing enormous problems, and Congress acts as though there is always another day. Pass a CR, postpone the hard decisions, go home, campaign, raise money, please the donors—and we’ll see you again after the election. Meanwhile, taxpayers are left wondering when the next shutdown threat will arrive. We don’t need another CR. We need you to sit down and do the work. Give us 12 regular, clean appropriations bills. Go through the spending. Debate it. Ask why we are still paying for programs that are no longer necessary. Keep what we need and eliminate what we don’t. Let the public see what you’re voting to spend our money on. You were hired to represent the people and run the government, not continually postpone the job so you can get back to campaigning. The country has serious problems. Stay in Washington and do your job. What is wrong with you people?
