❌Biased and inconsistent reviews
🦥Slowness

Updated 2021 data on @MDPI special sssues.
8 journals have more than 1000 open special issues.
35 have more than 1 *per day*.
Sustainability has 8.7 *per day*.
This is predatory publishing.
Stand clear of them.

A Latin expression meaning “without pay.”
Reviewers know it too well.
But fairness isn’t just a nice idea — it’s a right.
It’s time to erase “ad honorem” from peer review.

Couldn’t agree more! Science publishing is not only one of the greatest scams, but it also greatly slows down scientific progress through gatekeeping. In the age of AI, this needs to be completely dismantled & replaced with fully open, free publishing in days, not months, with AI
Academic publishing is perhaps the greatest scam perpetrated on intelligent people
1) Write grants (unpaid)
2) Do research
3) Write papers
4) Peer review (unpaid)
5) PAY up to $12K to publish
6) Need publications to get grants (back to step 1)

Peer review isn’t volunteering.
It’s expert scientific work — and it deserves fair compensation.
If journals and institutions rely on reviewers’ expertise, they should value it accordingly.

Science doesn’t move forward on its own.
Behind every paper, there are reviewers who read, correct, and improve, often without getting paid.
At Smart Peer Reviewers, we want to change that. It’s time to recognize their true value.

He aquí cómo ↓
🤬How did we let researchers end up in this situation?
•We review more and more (demand is insane).
•At best, we get a Publons..
•When we publish, we pay increasingly higher fees for an outdated concept.
•Publishers making a fortune
