On Oct. 18, 1969, Air Force beat Oregon, 60-13, in the (in)famous “Fog Bowl.” My first trip to Falcon Stadium. Left early because you could not see the field from the stands due to the thick fog. Fifty-seven years ago! Yes, time flies.

Congrats to Coach Ed Lamb, his staff and the players. Terrific win. Keep grinding.

Win the toss, take the ball. Every time, right Notre Dame? (I’m sure the analytics out there say differently, but I don’t understand why an 11-point favorite gives the home team a chance to energize its stadium).

Texas State just dropped 66 points/716 yards on Colorado State. Good thing for CSU the Denver Broncos also played, so few sports fans in Colorado will notice. As an old friend who knows such things once told me, the Denver media “… couldn’t find Fort Collins with a map.”

Texas State has scored 28 points in 18 minutes. I wonder if Colorado State coach Jim Mora is going to let his defensive coaches on the charter, or if they will have to hitch-hike back to Fort Collins.

San Diego State trails Oregon State, 59-7, with 6+ minutes left in the third quarter. The elevation of Corvallis is 235 feet above sea level. IYKYK.

So KJZZ-TV cuts to its high school football game coverage in the middle of Final Jeopardy. What is madness?

Been a Cub fan since dad took me to a doubleheader vs. the Mets on July 4, 1963. Walked in through the portal behind home plate. The scoreboard. The green grass. Seats behind the Mets dugout. We’ve celebrated on the day after the season only once in 63 years. But I’ll be back.

Thank God for 2016, because that ain’t happening again for a long time. Not with this roster.

Cubs will never score with more at-bats like Swanson’s. He swing at ball four … twice. But who needs the bases loaded and nobody out with the top of the order coming up? Just brutal, fundamental baseball.

After the no-shows by the Cubs and Red Sox last night, the MLB playoffs needed the Phillies-Braves today. An absolutely invigorating baseball game.

In his last three starts of the regular season. Padre pitcher Michael King gave up 10 earned runs on 18 hits in 17 innings. He has no-hit the Cubs through five innings tonight. So there’s that.

Cubs 0-for-4 with RISP in the first three innings. Bregman looked particularly lost while striking out. Already has the look of a quick series.

In a time when horse racing is struggling and tracks like Arlington Park, Aqueduct and Golden Gate have closed, this seems impossible. On Saturday at Sweetwater Downs in little Rock Springs, Wyo., 98 horses in 11 races are running for $770,000 in purse money. Amazing.

Northern Colorado wipes out a 10-point deficit in the final minute of regulation and then beats Northeastern State in OT. The Bears deserved one like this after so many near-misses the last two seasons and finally got it. Congrats to Coach Ed Lamb, his staff and the players.

Congrats again to quarter horse jockey Cody Jensen, legendary journalist Lee Bensen and three other deserving honorees for tonight’s induction into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame.

Northern Colorado leads Wyoming, 13-7, and has dominated. Lightening delay with 12 minutes left. Wyoming uses the standing eight-count to its advantage and scores two TDs in the final 11 minutes. I’ve never seen a team with worse luck than UNCo over the last two seasons.

Never underestimate horses that ship in from Wyoming Downs.
WOAH. 🤯 Marvelousmissmabel goes gate to wire in Race 2 paying her backers a whopping 80-1 return. Who had that winning ticket?

In the first two innings at Miami, the Cubs have two runners thrown out at third base and one (Bush) striking out on a clock violation. Wonder if the fellas stayed out a little late after Friday night’s game?

Heartbroken to hear Spokane journalism legend Joe Palmquist has passed. He spent a few years as sports editor at the Tribune and entrusted me with the Utah Jazz beat in 1986. He was a terrific boss who was a kind and decent man. He was only 66. Rest peacefully, Joe. Thank you.
