On nature, Identity is the hardest process to achieve. Otherwise we by now had huge quantum computers and wouldn’t need fridges for food.

Well, this has been a long-awaited day- the first paper on our multicellularity Long Term Evolution Experiment (LTEE) is on the BioRxiv. Ever wonder how simple multicellular organisms evolve to become larger and more complex over thousands of gens? 1/35 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

What do you do when invited by the amazing @TobySpribille to contribute to a special issue of a Lichen journal, when you don't work on lichens? You accept, of course! @SFI_elibby and I show how lichens illustrate a often-ignored route to multicellularity: cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Me: Oh another interactive visualization sigh. Let's see how disappointing it is... (this is very good! and I tend to be very critical of these things)
What does a Gaussian process "look like"?🧐 My take on interactive visualisation of #GaussianProcesses aims to help you intuitively understand prior and posterior kernel functions: infinitecuriosity.org/vizgp/ - would love to hear your suggestions for improvements! Made in #svelte

For @AlJazeera educated Westerners, equating Zionism with colonialism is almost axiomatic. To see the absurdity of this association please examine the five bullets listed on p.229 of ucla.in/2SxjgWH. Send them to @mehdirhasan and other Qatari spokespersons.

Principal Component Analysis is one of the most fundamental techniques in data science. Despite its simplicity, it has several equivalent forms that you might not have seen. In this thread, we'll explore what PCA is really doing! 🧵 👇🏽

Linear regression has two faces, that should be taught side by side: 1. A claim about nature: E(Y|x)= bx + eps 2. A strategy for estimation: The best (min squared error) linear approximation of y . The former is empirically refutable, the latter is beyond refutation.
I would say that one should also avoid teaching linear regression as y ~ Normal(Xb, sigma) Because that's also not what a linear regression is. Linear regression should be taught as what it is: the best (min squared error) linear approximation of y (or of E[y|x]).

I had heard of several of the terms at the ends of the paths but am not sure about their meaning. This is a nice way to arrange them (I can't vouch for correctness though). In my case, the questions lead to scientific realism.
