Calling someone 'Other Backward Class' is so regressive, so anti-Gandhi. Let's not forget even Gandhi never called anyone lower or backward; he used the term 'Harijan'.
Constitutionally labeling any caste/community as 'BACKWARD' should have been avoided. It is like the Indian State is shaming and targeting a community. It is so casteist.
While Article 15(1) says that the State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth, the same Constitution goes ahead and puts a 'BACKWARD' label in bold on certain communities on the same basis.
If the State wanted to give reservations or uplift some classes/communities, they could have used the terms 'Socially Disadvantaged Class', 'Economically Disadvantaged Class', or 'Educationally Disadvantaged Class' based on their handicaps, and targeted policies should have been created based on their disadvantage rather than putting a blanket stamp of 'BACKWARD' (पिछड़ा) on their forehead.
I appeal to the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to remove all casteist slurs like 'BACKWARD' from the Constitution of India and all government schemes. If you have to refer to them as a group, then call them 'Modijan' in keeping with Gandhian principles, ideology, and terminology like 'Harijan'. Rename OBC as 'MC' – Modi's Community – to erase any reference to 'BACKWARD'.
These changes are also in consonance with Shri Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047. You cannot label 70% of the people as 'BACKWARD' and then call yourself a developed nation. If you do that, you will only become a subject of ridicule for the entire world. So, politically and aesthetically too, it is imperative that you make the change immediately.
