I think it's instructive that the government that chose "the unapologetic pursuit of national power" is presiding over the most obvious collapse of American political power abroad since the 1920s.

For all of the right-wing fury around changes in gender norms signalling decadence, it's hard for me to think of something more obviously decedent than sticking with a catastrophically incompetent government because of gender norms.

Ultimately no matter how much we win by in 2026 I consider this year kinda a failure.
Voters don’t hate trump for his attacks on democracy or rampant corruption, but for high gas prices and lack of deflation, the same thing that got us into this mess

Americans hate higher gas prices more than an actual fucking coup this is insane

Just saw a clip of Pete Buttigieg talking about how one of the things at stake in this political moment is the legacy of the enlightenment. Language calculated to appeal specifically to me I think

I think the fundamental disconnect here is that you wants politics to solve man's search for meaning and I want politics to deliver a prosperous, safe, free society in which everyone can go find meaning in something other than politics.

The Shroud has absolutely not been confirmed authentic, this is not what Jesus actually looked like & "this hideous brown guy" is wildly racist.

Yes Mr. Lee was related to Charlemagne but so is pretty much every person of European descent.
Even me.
But VERY few people share his wartime experiences though, which is a much more interesting and mysterious story.

So Africa had a multitude of organized states before (and during) European imperialism. Ethiopia, Benin, Dahomey, Sokoto, Wadai, Kanem-Bornu, the Ashanti Empire, the Zulu Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Imerina are just a few examples of states that Europeans encountered and fought.

ALT Mysterious Stranger quote tweets someone pointing out in a reply thread that Africa had many different states and autonomous groups before European imperialism with "The use of 'state' is comically loose. Otherwise all correct. A continent filled with an unorganized, wildly disparate hodgepodge of competing tribes, with nothing in common, that were engaged in constant and bloody barbarism unimaginable to those in Western civilisations."
