I don’t support Manchester City being banned from competing. It feels like Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United and even Chelsea are eager to punish City for what they have done in the past. During that same period, these clubs have spent heavily too — but they couldn’t compete with City’s consistency. Look at what City have built over the last decade: sustained Premier League dominance, Champions League success and an historic Treble in 2022/23. That success didn’t happen by accident. Elite management. A clear structure. World-class professionals in key positions. Excellent scouting and recruitment. Identifying players who fit a specific football philosophy. Long-term investment in football development. The City Football Group has also invested heavily in football infrastructure and development beyond the first team. Ask kids their favourite clubs today and you might be surprised by how many say Manchester City. I fully understand why football needs financial regulation. But regulation should protect competitive football without preventing ambitious ownership from investing and building. Whatever happens with the case, one thing deserves acknowledgement: Manchester City have built one of the greatest football operations of the modern era. Newcastle fan here.
