Stephen was a 41 handicap when we started about a year ago.
I have never met him in person! He may get down to a single digit this year. Online lessons work. @skillestapp
Why aren’t you doing them? If you are interested, Dm me for a code.

I think a lot of golfers can EASILY improve their chipping around the green by doing the following:
1. Stand closer to the ball with a narrow stance
2. Lift the handle higher and get the heel off the ground
3. This places your wrists in “ulnar deviation” which can help take out excessive wrist hinge (think thumbs down)
4. Use your torso as the main power source and limit the wrist hinge
That’s it. I bet if you tried that you’d chip it much better. 56 deg is a good club around the greens for most shots

My video and 🧵 on shallow/steep chip shots
Hopefully you guys can hear me enough… didn’t realize the audio wasn’t great until after. If you can’t hear at all, I’ll film it again
Comment with any questions you might have and I’ll try to answer them.
Also, Parker McLaughlin and Joe Mayo know much more about how to teach this stuff than me, these videos are how I go about doing these certain shots. Parker and Joe will have more info and you can easily find their stuff on their social media. These are just very basic breakdowns and from the fairway.

LEGS IN THE DOWNSWING
If you are curious about what is happening from the hips down in the downswing, this video is for you. As we start our movement towards the target, it’s important we don’t go into hip extension too early (Early Extension). There should be a phase where we get back into flexion, before extending to the target.
It’s essential to know that extension is powerful, especially when it occurs at the right time in the right direction.

SHANK FIX
Now there are several causes of shanks, but one thing for certain, shanks are when the hossel of the club is delivered into the ball instead of the sweet spot.
When on the course, if you suffer from one of these unfortunate shots, there are some “on the fly” strategies you can bring in, to prevent them from happening again. This video dives into a very easy practice swing that will give you the exact feel you need to have to avoid the heel of the club.
In addition to this swing feel, have the thought to strike it on the toe of the club is also advisable. This will get you back to the sweet spot, where you want to be!

This pitching style produces high spin and predictable trajectory making distance control easy. Goes like this Set up: narrow stance, hands and ball position neutral, clubface slightly open, weight hint left. Swing: Rib cage rotation is the engine. Wide back and through so club skids with slight shaft lean. Ball launches mid-20 degrees with a 58. Body raises up and backs up a hint. Pretty skilful but you can at least get it “wide to wide” to let the club skid not dig. Video @shortgamechef

Do you struggle with low point control? Tired of hitting the ball fat?
Here is one common move that I see golfers do that causes low point issues!
🔹If the upper body moves off the golf ball too much, you will have a hard time getting the chest back on top of the ball at impact
🔹Work on staying more centred when you rotate your body in the backswing
🔹This will help stay over the ball and make it easier to have you body ahead of the ball at impact, moving low point forward and compressing the ball better
Increased shaft lean, divot in front of the ball, compressed iron shots 👊🏼

Do you suffer from getting the golf club across the line at the top of your backswing?
If you feel like this is something that’s hurting your ball striking, watch this video!
🔹The club gets across the line due to too much trail arm lift & excessive trail should internal rotation
🔹This can get the club across the line & perhaps cup the lead wrist creating a steep downswing
🔹Place a tour striker ball between to forearms
🔹If your trail arm lifts or internally rotates, the ball with fall
🔹Keep with ball between the arms via the feeling of more external rotation of the trail shoulder and less trail arm lift
Give this a go 👊🏼
PS: Not once did I say an across the line position is bad and that you can’t play good golf from there. So chill 🙂

IS CONNECTION A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING?
Well, it depends what we are trying to achieve. For driver, we are looking to optimize club head speed, therefore we want to create a motion that gets are arms to travel as fast as possible. Therefore, we need to allow the arms to disconnect from the torso in the 2nd half of the backswing to get the hands high enough to increase the swing arc and create more of an opportunity in the downswing for acceleration.
An overly connected arm to body relationship may feel more in control as they are all moving as a unit, but unfortunately you will be passing up a lot of speed. Have a look at the players who really bomb it and see where they get their hands at the top of the swing. I can’t imagine many of them are below their heads.
Allowing the arms to elevate places an addition stretch on the lats, which are the largest muscles of the torso. The problem with maintaining extreme connection and not allowing this arm lift is that you’ll never stretch your lats. If you don’t stretch them, you won’t use them in the downswing to accelerate the arms. This will hurt your speed tremendously. Get those arms UP if you want to bomb it!!!

SEQUENCE LIKE THE PROS
I’ve spoken a lot about what the club needs to do through impact to improve our likelihood of great contact. There are also patterns within the body that, if mastered, will drastically improve how you will deliver the club.
Professional golfers may not always look as universally athletic as athletes in other sports. You may ask yourself, “how do some of those players generate the speed they do?” Well the answer in many cases is in their sequencing.
Elite players utilize efficient sequencing to generate speed and encourage shallowing influences on the club through the transition. Now, an extremely important thing to note is that most of these elite players were lucky to have moved in these ways from day 1.
As an amateur golfer, I still believe it is important that you understand the concepts of sequencing such that if you are working on your game, you will be working on the right goal. Naturally, these complex movement changes need to be first understood, then trained appropriately through drills and slo motion movements.
