ALT Today marks the anniversary of the cremation and internment of Sir Josiah Mason, his wife Annie and 54 children who died at the orphanage and were buried in the grounds. The closure, subsequent demolition of the orphanage and development of the grounds meant that their bodies had to be removed. Their remains were cremated and interred in a memorial court at Birmingham Crematorium, Perry Barr, on 18 August, 1962. Named Mason Court, the enclosed outdoor memorial court features a rose bed and a plaque which lists Sir Josiah Mason and Annie, and the names of each of the children.
