The feds approved RBT2 after the federal review found it would harm southern resident orcas and destroy their habitat.
We do have to choose between endless industrial expansion and ensuring the survival of threatened species, and the @liberal_party have made their choice.
These reports could not be further from the truth.
On the contrary, just two weeks ago our government brought forward clear action and ambitious investment in the Spring Economic Update to protect at-risk whale populations, not only on the B.C. coast, but all of Canada’s coastlines. Furthermore, our government is working to protect up to 700,000 square km of oceans in Canada over the next four years.
We would not take any actions that would undermine these important strategies and substantial investments. Our approach to assessments isn’t about cutting corners, but improving coordination, efficiency, and long-term planning resulting in faster decisions, without weakening oversight or standards.
We are committed to building big things fast that connect and grow a strong Canadian economy, though always building in a manner that is sustainable for our environment, in solidarity with our workers, and in partnership with Indigenous peoples.

Huge new landslide ~1km down from the #SiteC dam. Town of Old Fort which again faces evacuation. This is the geology of the Peace River area—as we've said all along, a v. dicey place to put a dam. We spent easily an extra 8bn on fixes at that dam #bcpoli

Key miscalculation on Site C: discounting geotechnical risks known well in advance. BC Hydro branded "low risk" but "high consequence" if they materialized. BC Liberals started construction 2015. NDP inherited overrun when risks materialized. But Liberals made the call.

I think a lot about what happens to the hundreds of people employed at a work camp when a boom/bust megaproject is finished.
I've thought less about what happens to the actual physical camp. This is good coverage of that part of the story:

Still no word from @BChydro, @adriandix or @BCEnergyReg on this video. Comment please. #bcpoli #SiteC

Here’s a better copy of the video of a leaking dam penstock, recorded from the “What’s Up FSJ” Facebook group. The video originally came from TikTok, but it was subsequently removed from that TikTok account (perhaps upon request?)
Could you comment, @BCEnergyReg? #SiteC #bcpoli

More seriously though, it’s striking how quickly those in power admit we can interfere with markets and divert supply chains at the stroke of a pen after they’ve spent years insisting they can’t to do so to pull people out of poverty, fight climate change or protect ecosystems.

Finally, media reporting on BC's fracking madness. It caused a massive quake at #SiteC in 2018. Why has it taken this long to look at this?
Fracking leaks/vents methane, the most rapid of the climate-destroying gases. And the NDP back this. cbc.ca/amp/1.7447400 #bcpoli

If BC people knew we don't need new power in BC would they support spending $9 billion on the #SiteC Dam? #climate xitter.cf/sarmcbride/status/7512…
Oh my, what else dont we know, other than behind schedule, cost over-runs & flooding fertile valley? #bcpoli #SiteC

Interesting numbers from @bchydro financials. Virtually no increase in demand and average industrial rates just over half of what residential rates are. And we haven’t even started to it for the #sitec dam yet. H/t to @Norm_Farrell in-sights.ca/2025/01/01/bc-h…
