Trying to get back on this horse! My latest post is my take (surprising and clever, of course) on why the ARPANET was such an important breakthrough, with a fun focus on the conference where the ARPANET was shown off for the first time: twobithistory.org/2021/02/07…

I first heard about the FOAF (Friend of a Friend) standard back when I wrote my post about the Semantic Web. I thought it was a really interesting take on social networking and I've wanted to write about it since. Finally got around to it! twobithistory.org/2020/01/05…

whether disney or sony should have spiderman, or what would be necessary for them to cooperate and merge for the production of spiderman, are not even the right questions the answer is that spiderman was created in 1962 by the late stan lee and should be public domain by now

@sinclairtarget's article "Codecademy vs. The BBC Micro" is an excellent meditation on computer literacy, how the current focus on learning to "code" might be somewhat misplaced, and how a 1980s BBC project might have gotten it right: twobithistory.org/2019/03/31… Thanks, Sinclair!

I was TODAY YEARS OLD when I learned that FORTRAN variables were implicitly typed based on their first letter <en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Fortra…> and I-N were implicitly integer (others were real/float) and that's why I've been using i,j,k as for-loop counters for my entire life.
