🚨 🇺🇲 The US bond market is starting to say the trillions of dollars promised to build its infrastructure could become impossible to finance under current conditions and I think we are witnessing a genuine regime shift.
📊 For three years, markets have rewarded companies announcing the most spectacular investment plans, but now investors are finally starting to ask the right questions. Who is financing these projects? At what cost? With what guarantees? For what return? 47 major data center projects have been delayed, canceled, or blocked in 2026, while only 35% of the US data center pipeline is actually credible according to Bernstein. We are talking about a potential investment wave exceeding $10 trillion between 2025 and 2032 - FT
📉 Companies developing these infrastructures must spend billions upfront to purchase GPUs, build data centers and secure electricity supplies, while the associated revenues may not materialize for several years. Their entire business model depends on their ability to keep raising capital at reasonable costs, but that assumption is currently being challenged. CoreWeave lost 25% last week while some of its bonds suffered a sharp sell-off as the market is wondering whether these projects are financially viable at all.
➡️ Few other examples to understand. Cipher agreed to absorb the first $359 million in cost overruns on one project, creating an additional equity requirement of $750 million. Nscale has a contract potentially worth $45 billion with Anthropic but Anthropic can walk away if certain financing or delivery commitments are not met. Meanwhile, SB Energy needs around $174 billion in capital to fulfill contracts representing $430 billion in future revenue, despite not having completed a single data center. Some companies are being valued on enormous contracts without having demonstrated that they can actually finance and deliver the infrastructure behind them.
⚠️ We also need to revisit the circular financing structure of this industry which I have discussed before. Nvidia invests in companies that buy its chips, AI labs sign contracts that allow developers to raise debt, and SPVs or private credit funds finance infrastructure based on expected future revenues. As long as capital keeps flowing, the system works, but if investors suddenly demand much higher yields, the entire mechanism can start breaking down. Projects get delayed, GPU orders are postponed, developers face financial difficulties, and creditors reassess their exposure. A financing crisis can trigger an investment crisis before demand for AI even starts slowing down and many people tend to forget that. Moreover, that risk is concerning given how important AI-related investment has become as a driver of US economic growth.
📈 I do not think we are witnessing the collapse of the entire industry. Instead, we may be entering a much more brutal selection process between financially viable projects and those built on unrealistic assumptions. Lower Fed rates will not solve the problem as if credit spreads widen faster than risk-free rates decline, the overall cost of financing will continue to rise.
💸 I maintain that we need to return to a cost of capital and valuation levels that are consistent with the actual economic profitability of these projects. The technological success of AI does not guarantee financial success for the companies funding its infrastructure. History has already taught us this through railroads, telecommunications, and the internet. A technology can revolutionize the economy while destroying enormous amounts of investor capital.
The current tensions in the bond market are a serious warning sign ⚠️

Shooting star update. 💫
My young padawans, there are those who seek hopium and those who seek knowledge. The great one does not provide hopium, but knowledge for those willing to learn.
Those who study the great one’s work understand the burden I possess. It is not a gift, but the fruit of hard and dedicated labor. While others slept, the great one pursued the fruits of knowledge.
Money is not the end, though one may rightly seek it; knowledge is the greater prize, for knowledge opens all doors.
My padawans, below is but one of many pulchritudinous calls that have come to fruition.
For those who seek deeper knowledge across all sectors, subscribers are granted that privilege daily.
Nevertheless, I shall not burden you with my curse, but rather allow the fruits of my labours to be enjoyed.
God bless and Godspeed. And God help us all
Yours truly,
The Great Martis💫

The biggest customer and compute consumer in the AI ecosystem, the one responsible for the majority of the RPO at many of the neoclouds, Microsoft, Oracle, and others, and the one consuming huge numbers of Nvidia GPUs, is reporting $50B in ARR, not $70B. And that figure is ARR.
So, when is OpenAI going to IPO? I'd like to read the prospectus, please.

HSBC: INVESTORS ROTATING OUT OF FRANCE INTO UK
HSBC says European equity funds are shifting capital from France toward the UK, as concerns over France’s fiscal outlook intensify.
The bank recently cut France to Underweight, citing worsening public finances, weaker growth forecasts and deteriorating earnings expectations.
HSBC remains Overweight European technology and sees higher bond yields continuing to support financial stocks.

This is the real reasons Dario Amodei and OpenAI want tighter AI regulation because open models are rapidly taking over the market beneath them.
Vercel’s AI Gateway data shows that open weight models now account for 78.4% of token volume, compared with only 21.6% for closed models while Open models represented roughly 40% of token volume in June, meaning their share has nearly doubled in only three months.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash alone generates 59.3% of the tokens moving through the gateway and by comparison, Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Sonnet 5 each account for only 1.7% of token volume.
However, the spending data tells a very different story.
Closed models still capture a disproportionate amount of money because they charge much more per token.
Claude Opus 4.8 accounts for 13.7% of spending despite representing only 1.7% of token volume while Anthropic’s five listed Claude models collectively capture 36.9% of total spending.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash has the opposite profile because it processes most of the tokens on the gateway but accounts for only 5.1% of spending, which shows how aggressively open models are competing on price.
This is the threat facing closed model companies.
Developers may still use expensive proprietary models for their hardest tasks but they are increasingly sending high volume workloads to cheaper open alternatives and as open models improve, developers could begin routing more premium workloads toward them as well.
Open weights also give companies more control over their infrastructure.
Developers can download these models, run them on different cloud providers, fine tune them for specific applications, and avoid depending entirely on one company’s API and this reduces the pricing power and customer lock in enjoyed by OpenAI and Anthropic.
If open models keep closing the performance gap, OpenAI and Anthropic could lose the one thing that matters most, pricing power.
