Ukraine is not trying to just enter the war with Iran. Rather, it appears it is trying to merge the Ukraine war with the Iran war. Why? Because if these two wars merge, Ukraine will be a belligerent in the Iran war and America will be a belligerent in the Ukraine war. That is, the US will no longer just be arming Ukraine, but also actively and openly fighting Russia with US personnel. That is the key objective Zelensky has tried to achieve since 2022...

The blown-up police station in Niavaran, Tehran was where the hijab police took me to when I was 16 because my mandatory garment (the long tunic or shirt we had to always wear) did not reach my knees. Among the detainees there was a woman who dared to argue with those thugs, saying her father was a martyr of Iran-Iraq war. After intensely insulting her late father, the officers took her to a back room and beat her up. Initially we heard her screaming and the thudding of them kicking her with their boots. After a few minutes silence ensued. To this day I wonder what happened to her.

این کلانتری نیاوران که زدن فک کنم اونی بود که منو دوم دبیرستان گشت ارشاد گرفت برد اون جا. یه زنی بود که دهن به دهنشون گذاشت و گفت پدرش شهید جنگه. بردنش یه اتاق پشتی و لگدکوبش کردن. ما چند دقیقه صدای جیغ و لگد می‌شنیدیم و بعدش صدا قطع شد. همیشه یادش که می‌افتم با خودم می‌گم چی شد ینی سرنوشتش.

I fear @vali_nasr is right. When I met Ali Larijani I found him an absolute insider kingpin of the Iranian regime -- but also the kind of strong and pragmatic leader who just might be able to hammer out a peace deal. Not sure, but I wonder if the war will now be harder to end.

📺 The BBC cancelled almost all TV and radio interviews on #Iran's internet blackout they'd scheduled or suggested changing topic to other outages. With huge respect to BBC journos, this wastes human rights monitors' time, hasn't happened in past crises, and needs investigation.
