I didn't quite understand the whole Starlink India saga from Mr. Musk, so I decided to check for China. Here's what grok had to say.
All for allowing competition and new technology, but I am not sure why this is hard to follow, especially after how much control Starlink had in some regional conflicts.
P.S.: I generally love most things Elon Musk has done including SpaceX.
Decision fatigue is real!
This gets worse with using AI as we are required to make multiple decisions, lot of them even though simple eat away at a portion of our mental capacity.
It's why I feel a bit frustrated, anxious and exhausted while being excited to build with AI.
Changing your mind is okay!
Many folks defend their opinions and original thesis even in light of new evidence, which prevents them from making good money or prevent further loss because they couldn't change their mind.
Long term investing doesn't mean to never accept new ideas
FIRE Plans Fail, then should you even Plan?
A bad investment year can derail your target date for FIRE, still planning and investing consistently is the highest probability path to achieving it, even if a few years late.
You can derisk by generating more sources of income.
We probably very quickly need companies to adopt physical 2FA (like yubikey) for login to secure access to that user can truly control and prevent agent access when not authorized and prevent rogue actions. Pretty common in corporate not so much in consumer apps.
It is mentally very difficult to invest more in a stock you invested earlier at X and is now at 5X but still undervalued. Did that with $META recently at $585 when it dropped. Glad I did, although could have sized it higher.
Would be amazing if there was a way to invest in Indie devs. Not in a company, just in the person and have some sort of rev share or profit share in everything they choose to do. They get access to capital and people get to ride their success. Probably risky, but still sounds fun. Can be even more meaningful for indie builders of physical products or research ideas as software devs don't usually need a lot of capital. And no I am not talking about kickstarter, that is for a project, this is the bet on the person. Of course the indie maker should also get a way to buy back this stake if they wish to. I am sure there might be regulations that prevent this currently or other nuances I am not familiar with, just seems like a fun way to invest. @vladtenev , wdyt?
Another alternative to securing different apps from AI attacks can be to require OTP and maybe have that sim installed on a basic phone that doesn't have apps or internet access. This can make a lot of your important apps really secure. It's a bit hassle but totally worth it.
If AI attacks become frequent, soon enough physical authentication to log into apps would become standard. Yubikey type auth is pretty common in companies, would become mainstream.
This aged well. Glad I invested a small chunk in $DUOL at the time.
I read too many X posts about $DUOL but didn't dip my feet in it due to lofty valuation. After a massive selloff though, it does look attractive on paper. Thoughts from anyone on here, as to what might be a reason not to invest, besides AI threat that is?
Is $BYDDF really dead in the water? Have a position that round tripped to a large gain and basically back to cost basis now after few years of holding. The company itself is alright, the domestic competition is fierce in China though. Thoughts?
Am I crazy to double down on $GRAB added a bit more at 3.4 and it fell again? Tempted to keep adding on the way down
The answer to people saying don't pay off your mortgage, invest it in the market is to ask them if they would take a margin loan to invest in the market? If the answer is no, just pay the mortgage if you can, you'd be at peace.
There are two ways to be as an investor:
Type 1: You cannot lose mode
Portfolio is up, great thesis is working
Portfolio is down, great time to buy amazing businesses
Type 2: Grass is greener mode
Portfolio is up, oh no I can't buy, huge capital gains taxes
Portfolio is down, oh no I lost so much money
TBH, don't think any of us are either type only. I (at least) go through each phase from time to time. The challenge is to try keeping yourself in Type 1 mode as much as possible. Of course it's super hard in times of extreme volatility and uncertainty.
More I use claude code, I realize why software stocks are falling off. There is no longer a need for general purpose software that does everything when you can build custom ones out of thin air. Insanely good quality. I felt like using Jarvis for the first time.

I want to start by acknowledging that I respect Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger a lot.
One thing I have heard them say in many conversations is they are good at identifying the character of a person and whether they can be in business with them is mainly decided by how they perceive them to be.
Given this, I am really surprised that they missed this with Bill Gates, knowing now all the details from the Epstein files, even if he did not do anything illegal until proven, at the very least he feels like a person they would never associate or do business with.
It just bothers me that Warren decided to donate so much to a person who clearly shouldn't have access to his money.
Just wanted to say this, open to feedback and corrections.
