when they said there'd be bread and circuses, they should have specified that the bread would cost 200% more than it did four years ago and the circuses are only available on your least favourite streaming network for $19.99/month

One of the key principles to understand about our society--which is not taught in law schools, or any other school--is this: (1) when local governments do things that capital doesn't like, state governments usually override it; (2) when state governments do something capital doesn't like, the federal government usually overrides it. One of the goals of the neoliberal "free trade" era is to enshrine (3) a system in which global capital can override whatever national policies it doesn't like. Understanding this dynamic is a crucial first step to understanding the kinds of social movements needed to create policies that actually benefit the people, animals, and plants of this earth.

I asked the Andrew Cuomo ‘canvasser’ sitting on the corner of my polling site watching YouTube on his phone why he isn’t handing out the lit materials and he said “I’m being paid either way and don’t like the man” lmao

As of 8:47pm, I have received 31 emails from Cornell asking me to participate in today’s Giving Day. I wouldn’t mind nearly as much if my email inbox wasn’t also interspersed with notifications from the university that all of the job searches I’ve applied to have been canceled.

Therapists will be like “Yeah I know how to treat mental illness” and then only know how to treat irrational thinking, having no idea how to help people whose mental illness is actually a reasonable and proportional response to objective reality

The Democrats decided very self consciously to shed their image as a labor party in the 1980s and 1990s in favor of the professional managerial class so yeah of course the working class vote is now divided.

pretty much every major city in america has a republican mayor who cosplayed as a democrat in order to win and yet every suburban idiot thinks their closest city is run by a socialist.

personally i think the wildest thing about the increasing tension we all feel is that the ruling class could simply choose to blink. nobody is forcing them to continue making things worse! they could diffuse the tension rapidly if they really wanted to!
