.@FlySWISS revised the Summer 2027 schedule for the flights from @zrh_airport to Vilnius and @TLLairport.
Both routes decreased in frequency from 7x weekly to 5x weekly. Instead of operating overnight flights, SWISS scheduled midday rotations for VNO and TLL.
Preliminary number for @riga_airport: ±630.000 passengers, no change; same as last year.
September 2026 in Baltic airports:
- Vilnius Airport: 530K pax, +8% y-o-y;
- Kaunas Airport: 145K pax, +3%;
- Palanga Airport: 37K pax, -8%;
@LTairports total: 711K pax, +6%.
@TLLairport: 356K pax, +13%.
@riga_airport announces statistics after 2 weeks or so.
.@Ryanair announced a new base in Rimini today. With the base opening, next summer the route from Rimini to Kaunas will be increased to 5 flights per week.
So weird to see this, maybe this is @wizzair planning mistake. Wizz Air operates Oslo to Palanga flights until December 16 and suspending just before the busy Christmas season...
And then the flights resumes at the end of March :)
Baltic aviation is approaching a turning point.
The story isn’t just about which routes airlines are cutting this winter. It’s whether fewer flights will make the region less attractive and trigger even more cuts.
There’s a name for the force behind this: capacity discipline🧵
How do we avoid the spiral?
Find at least one sizeable airline willing to grow. Its expansion could force competitors to respond, increase competition and put pressure on fares.
The Baltics need more than route-by-route damage control. We need a new growth engine.
In addition to previous cancellations @airBaltic will suspend 5 more routes from @riga_airport this winter: Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Oulu and Innsbruck.
Currently all these routes except Innsbruck are scheduled to resume in Summer.
