Origami is a strange hobby, probably closer to music than any other form of visual art. Most folders never design their own pieces, they follow the instructions or crease patterns of others. That still is a tremendous skill that takes practice, dexterity and there is plenty of room to inject your own style onto someone else’s design. I’ve reached a point where I can fold basically anything from diagrams, and in another year could probably fold most crease patterns, but do I get into designing my own stuff? Maybe not, also like music Origami has an aspect of math, not just art, but unlike music that math is more necessary to actually design. Some designers do it by vibes, that’s hard, but relying just on math is kind of soulless. I don’t know where to take the hobby anymore
