President Donald Trump is on thin ice with Iceland after he posted a map that showed the American flag superimposed onto Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Mexico, and much of the Caribbean.  Iceland’s leaders summoned U.S. Ambassador Billy Long for a formal rebuke on Monday and publicly condemned the social media post on Tuesday. “It is an insult to Icelanders, Canadians, Greenlanders,” Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir told reporters. “There is nothing funny or normal about making fun of the sovereignty of states, especially today, when sovereignty cannot be taken for granted.”

Iceland says no to restarting EU accession talks as voters reject the proposal, highlighting divisions over sovereignty, fishing rights and European integration.

🇮🇸🇪🇺 The first results are in from Iceland’s EU referendum, and the country is almost evenly divided. YES: 51.2% NO: 48.8% One of the clearest patterns so far is the geographical divide. Reykjavík is voting roughly 60% YES, while much of the countryside is voting around 60% NO. Importantly, Icelanders are not voting today on whether Iceland should join the European Union. The question is whether Iceland should restart accession negotiations with the EU. If the YES side wins, Iceland would reopen negotiations and find out what membership terms are actually available. Once negotiations are completed, another referendum would be held, giving Icelanders the final say on whether the country should join the EU. With 51.2% to 48.8%, it remains extremely close. 🇮🇸 What do you think the final result will be?

Gulisthan, You, me and Gulfishan were so lovingly looked after by your parents in Eggamuge. Those memories will always remain very special to me. But I am still struggling to accept that I witnessed Gulfishan’s passing in front of me in the ICU at American Hospital in Dubai. I cannot put into words what I felt at that heartbreaking moment. It was the first time in my life that I had to watch someone so close to me leave this world right in front of my eyes. I was completely heartbroken. 😢 Gulfishan was one of the simplest, kindest and most genuine souls I have ever known. She never deserved to leave us so soon, and certainly not so suddenly. Her passing has left a deep emptiness in all our hearts that words cannot describe. 💔 Ya Allah, give immense strength and sabr to her children, Reem and Iby, to you, Gulisthan, and to everyone who loved our dear Gulfishan. May the beautiful memories you shared with her bring some comfort to your broken hearts. Ya Allah, embrace our beloved Gulfishan in Your infinite mercy.
