Keeping this open still but am over at the other place - still as silv24 (silv24.bsky.social) Hoping blue sky is like Twitter was previously. It gave me so much, sad that now there is so much toxicity on here.

Would love to have got @raye tickets for the RAH show next week (and I really really tried!) but seeing so many being sold for ridiculous mark ups on resale sites is really galling. Such a shame for an artist who has really tried to ensure fans get tickets.

My pappy was a former military police officer. A man who thought a mushroom was exotic. Who wrote every card to my nan before she died “to my darling”. He was incredibly brave, stoic and in the end a shell of the man he was when he died of metastatic lung cancer.

We didn’t know until the end of his life that after my Nan died he donated to a charity supporting physician assisted suicide. He had seen what happened to my nan and he didn’t want that. And yet that is exactly what he got.

Was that bill perfect? No. Do I desperately hope that one day there will be a better version that passes? Yes. And I will be thinking of my pappy every step of the way.

A little gesture but I wholeheartedly support the incredible work done by the @RNLI day in day out. Humanity does not mean picking and choosing who you save .

Maternal mortality is in some ways a barometer of the quality of national healthcare. This is very depressing.
252 women died in the UK during pregnancy or up to six weeks after the end of pregnancy in 2022-2024 from causes related to or exacerbated by pregnancy among 1,969,321 women giving birth, a maternal mortality rate of 12.80 per 100,000 buff.ly/0AwK13f

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old. Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000). A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact. At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton or by leaving a message at dollyparton.com In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at imaginationlibrary.com

It’s hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and — as if that wasn’t enough — helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.
Breaking News: Dolly Parton, the country singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur known for her outsize persona and prodigious vision and talent that placed her in a class by herself, has died at 80. nyti.ms/45Prr77

This note in the final book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library wrecked me last year when my daughter turned 5. Tearing up again reading it now.

When the public hear the word “consultant” in a medical setting, they understandably associate it with a consultant doctor: someone who has completed 5-6 years of medical school, years of postgraduate training and specialist examinations, and who carries senior responsibility for their care. There is already confusion for patients about whether or not they are are actually seeing a doctor because of role substitution, unclear introductions and increasingly ambiguous job titles. Expanding the use of “consultant clinician” would blur those distinctions even further in my opinion. This is not about diminishing the contribution of other healthcare professionals, as all of the team are valued. However, this is about transparency and informed consent. Patients have a right to clearly know who is assessing them, what their professional background and qualifications are, and the limits of their role. Titles in healthcare are not meaningless labels; they communicate training and expertise. The answer to public confusion should be clearer terminology, not redefining words that patients already understand to mean something specific.

For many this will be exceptionally tough to read, bringing back some truly awful memories and emotions. The pandemic has left many lasting scars and the impact of that cannot be forgotten.
The Chair of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, Baroness Heather Hallett, has today published her second report. Baroness Hallett is calling for the prompt and thorough implementation of 19 key recommendations. Read about the report or watch a short film by visiting the link in our bio.

I finished training in October 2023. I do not envy the residents having to work through such uncertain times. Tomorrow night I will be the anaesthetic registrar on call - ensuring safety whilst maintaining the rights of the residents to strike.
I count myself very lucky to have been through training when I did. 13 years as a resident doctor, moving hospitals every 3-6 months, having no continuity in my life. It was a hard slog, and I had a relatively easy path.

One of the absolute highlights of #WAMM2025 was @silv24 Nat Silvey who I have become very close to over many years. Proof that online friendships are real we have spent countless hours chatting. Both connecting through @doctorwibble another legend.
