We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

I think what is actually needed is for Indian people to actually give a damn about their cities and fellow citizens. Anybody using the "I pay taxes, I shouldn't have to do anything" excuse should go live in another country. India isn't developed, it's developing, so it needs patriots, not parasites. If this triggers you, it means you're part of the problem. If you're not happy with the footpath (or a pothole, or anything else which is broken), fix it, or call someone to fix it, and don't give up until it's fixed. Be relentless. Be vocal. Be creative. Make it your mission to get that one thing fixed. Look at what Virendra (@Virendra0698) did by just calling the right people and being respectful (but also persistent). He and Arun Pai (@arunpaiblrwalks) along with the help of GBA and some wonderful volunteers turned an unofficial garbage dump into a pristine, beautiful footpath through sheer force of will. xitter.cf/Virendra0698/status/21…

Language is not fundamental to human consciousness. In terms of evolution, it arrived only recently on our timeline. Consciousness evolved over millions of years through sensory awareness, emotion, and the embodied survival instincts of our tribal past; our capacity for empathic engagement and community. Syntactic language only emerged around 100,000 years ago. This is exactly why Large Language Models (LLMs - so called AI) are the wrong pathway to true artificial consciousness. They try to replicate the late-stage "output layer" of human intelligence without building the foundational, embodied awareness that actually generates it. Statistical text prediction is a mirror of thought, not the spine, the guts, the nerves and the subconscious, empathic ability to connect with other living beings. LLMs can never feel, let alone think. We have been sold a trick, not a pathway to superintelligence. LLMs are fraudulent. Their capabilities have already peaked and we are being sold lies about their future potential. Lies with the goal of companies reaching IPO and tricking investors out of hundreds of billion$.

The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before. The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t. HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside. Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵 (1/10)

Finally realized why it’s so exhausting and stressful to work with AI agents 8h a day. When delegating a task, you want to be assured it’s off your plate and you can forget about it, knowing it will be done completely and correctly. AI doesn’t give you that: you need to check it’s doing the right thing, it’s not forgetting anything, not taking short cuts etc. So it adds to your mental load, rather than removing from it.

This is what a GLOF looks like in motion: a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, sometimes called a Jökulhlaup (Icelandic for "glacier run"). Basically: meltwater builds up in a basin trapped against or beneath a glacier. Eventually the ice dam gives way, and all that pent-up water rushes out; sometimes over the course of a day or more. This was written around 2000 years ago. Things haven't changed much. === Milinda: “Revered Nagasena, will you converse with me?” Nagasena: “I will converse if you, sire, will converse in the speech of the learned, but if you converse, in the speech of kings I will not converse.” M: “How, Revered Nagasena do the learned converse?” N: “When the learned are conversing, sire, there is a turning over and an unravelling of the subject; then there is a refutation and an acknowledgement of a mistake; distinctions and contradistinctions are drawn; yet, thereby, they are not angered. It is thus, sire, that the learned converse.” M: “And how, revered sir, do kings converse?” N: “When kings are conversing, sire, they approve of some matter and order punishment for anyone who disagrees with that matter, saying: ‘Inflict a punishment on him.’ It is thus, sire, that kings converse.” (The Milindapanna, ed. NKG Mendis)
