I have worked remotely for the better part of 10 years and it really only works if you’re working REMOTELY (like going to client sites and shadowing ppl, asking questions IN PERSON at the point your customers are using ur product, looking at competitor offerings)…NOT WF”H”!!!!!
The fact that so many people prefer WFH, prioritizing instant gratification at the cost of better long term outcomes, is in fact evidence that most adults are children.

The highest degree of autism. Post-society at its best. That is called idiotism in Greek (Heideggerian) sense. Idiot is the individual with no ties with community. That is.
Even riots, fires, and smoke won't stop Parisians from their morning runs.

My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

The most destructive thing the cellphone has done is completely destroy serendipitous social interactions. If you try talking to strangers instead of just staring at your screen than you will , almost definitely, be viewed as mildly retarded
“Phone addiction” is just baked into the environment now. Like driving a car. There’s no escaping the use of it in most modern environments. If you go camping for 3 days or are in an environment where it’s not necessary than it’s easy to quit.

it should continue to unsettle us that the more we discover about our consciousness, the less metaphorical scripture sounds and the more it appears to be a literal account of the nature of reality and the function of our minds (matthew 13:14, deuteronomy 29:4)
Replying to @doristsao
6/ Remarkably, when we reconstructed the image using neural activity from one of the states, it looked exactly like the conscious face, and when we did the same from the other half of time, it looked exactly like the suppressed face. This means that just from neural activity, we can reconstruct in rich detail not only something that you consciously perceive, but also something that escapes your awareness.

Every recent Nathan Fielder project expertly touches the deep existential horror of not being able to ever fully know or understand another human being or their actions.

Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

In fact, New Jerseyans find the idea of Long Island somewhat claustrophobic and unsettling. In NJ, you’re always on the way to somewhere else — New York, the shore, Philly, the mountains. On Long Island you live in a long containment zone that discharges into the city every day.
No one from NJ feels that the state is “linked” the Long Island. Never mind that there is a Fitzgerald novel set in actual NJ!

FWIW, i think it's VERY funny that Thomas Jeffererson specifically went out of his way to mention all the major religions so right wingers couldn't pull the "oh, he actually meant christianity sects".
Because Thomas Jefferson believed that freedom of religion includes “within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and Infidel of every denomination.”

the trick is having the courage to live through a chapter you hate without letting it poison your belief in the story. even in the middle of something painful, you can hold onto that deep pull toward what your life could become. so much of life comes down to your ability to keep believing in what you cannot see yet, to keep faith in the story while you’re still living through the parts that make it hard to believe

Am I the only one who thinks it’s insane that we allow two stroke engine leaf blowers to operate in residential areas? Why do so many otherwise sensible people not recognize the extreme externality of that noise? On some of the most beautiful days of the year it’s practically impossible to be outside without exposure to 75-80db of droning noise.

I think this is exactly why, really. The most likely demographic to be viscerally anti-Indian in the United States are downwardly mobile people of a white collar background who feel outcompeted in the job market.
indian hate is very low-class bc anyone who has been in a solid academic or corporate environment has interacted with them and knows they are generally great citizens. chuds can’t clear the bar to those spaces
