Ray Kerr was working at a 7-Eleven and a movie theater, thinking his baseball career was over.
Then he got signed for $2,000 and spent seven seasons in the minors.
He just dominated the Phillies over 3.1 scoreless in his first MLB postseason game.

The next time you watch a movie, stay for the credits. Those are jobs Kentucky is competing for.
That is the thinking behind Senate President Robert Stivers’ work to grow Kentucky’s film industry—and the Motion Picture Association’s (MPA) decision to recognize him with its 2026 Industry Champion Award. Thank you to MPA Chair and CEO Charles Rivkin for helping put Kentucky’s potential in the national spotlight.
Electricians, carpenters, camera operators, drivers and caterers all help bring a production to life. The opportunity reaches the local restaurants, hotels and small businesses that keeps a production moving. Those are the kinds of opportunities we want more Kentuckians to have.
The General Assembly has put that vision to work by establishing the Kentucky Film Office, modernizing production incentives and strengthening accountability for participating companies. Stivers has helped lead that effort, with a focus on attracting productions that create lasting economic value here at home.
Stivers also extends his thanks to leaders like Meg Fister, Merry-Kay Poe, Misdee Wrigley Miller, Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, Joe Craft and the many Kentuckians working to expand opportunity across our state, including eastern Kentucky.
The next opportunity may come from Washington.
With support from the Trump administration, Republicans and Democrats in Congress introduced the Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act on Sept. 24. The proposal would create a federal tax credit tied to American film and television
production jobs, with additional incentives for eligible rural locations and disaster areas. U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, honored alongside Stivers at the MPA Awards, is among its sponsors.
The federal effort is focused on bringing more production back to America. Kentucky’s work aims to make our commonwealth a place those productions choose.
The goal is more Kentucky careers, more business for Main Street and a responsible return on taxpayers’ investment.
What Kentucky town, landmark or Main Street should filmmakers see next?
