The stance by players using this is, “if the devs didn’t like it, they’d ban us!”. You can’t blame them when we have high level streamers with 300+ viewers abusing the setting, acting as poster boys.

No Hived não ha nada de importante para ti, julgo. E mais para as witnesses que correm nos públicos.
Mas nas restantes aplicações (Hive API stack) existem mais coisas que mudaram, mas também julgo não ser nada que te afete.
Podes ler mais no ultimo post do blocktrades, se tiveres curiosidade.
Maior parte destas coisas quando não existe hardfork, e mais "quality of life changes", estabilidade e bug fixes que nao precisam de HF.
E coisas de segurança para manter a corrida contra o AI e/ou os que atacam o chain.
