In 1996, a Libyan leader put one billion dollars on the table for Black America. Washington made sure it never reached them.
The offer came during Louis Farrakhan's visit to Tripoli in January 1996. Muammar Gaddafi pledged the money to the Nation of Islam for economic development-Black-owned banks, factories, housing, schools, hospitals. Not a loan. Not charity with strings. A gift from an African head of state to the descendants of enslaved Africans.
Farrakhan did everything by the book. He applied to the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control for permission to accept the money. The Clinton administration denied it in August 1996. Libya was a state sponsor of terrorism. Sanctions barred the transaction. Case closed. Thoughts 💭 ⁉️

#DEI doesn’t lower the bar. It exposes those who can’t reach it.

UPDATE on the case of six Charlotte officers investigated over racist texts allegedly targeting Black residents: Three officers have resigned, and a chain-of-command review board unanimously recommended termination for the other three.
Resignation should not be the end of accountability.
Transparency must be part of what comes next.
The public deserves a thorough review of whether bias affected these officers’ stops, searches, arrests, or use of force. That includes examining their records and any prior complaints to determine whether residents’ rights were violated.
The department must also take concrete steps to prevent this from happening again, including stronger oversight and meaningful anti-bias training with ongoing evaluation. Training alone cannot replace consequences when misconduct is established.
Charlotte deserves clear answers about what happened, what action is taken, and how the department will protect residents’ rights moving forward.
